Senior Cost Accountant — Electrical Construction

Position Summary
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate project financials across electrical construction projects. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, Operations, and Accounting to monitor job costs, revenue recognition, committed costs, forecasts, change orders, and project profitability from project setup through closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review job cost accounting for multiple active electrical construction projects.
- Prepare and analyze monthly WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules.
- Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and monthly project close.
- Review actual costs, committed costs, budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Analyze labor, material, subcontractor, equipment, and other project costs against budget.
- Partner with PMs to identify cost overruns, margin erosion, forecast changes, and financial risks.
- Monitor approved and pending change orders and their impact on contract value and profitability.
- Perform project margin and variance analysis.
- Review project cost coding and ensure expenses are charged to the appropriate job/cost code.
- Assist with project setup, contract review, billing coordination, and financial closeout.
- Reconcile job-cost information between the accounting/ERP system and project management reporting.
- Prepare management reporting on backlog, earned revenue, gross margin, cost-to-complete, and project performance.
- Support month-end and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and audit requests.
- Help improve cost-accounting controls and reporting processes as the organization grows.
