Senior Corrosion & Coating Engineer

IOTA GROUP is an international engineering and services company supporting major players in the energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, and industrial sectors. We provide technical expertise and project support through experienced consultants across complex international environments.

We are currently looking for a Senior Corrosion & Coating Engineer to support a major Oil & Gas project, with an initial assignment in Chengdu, China, followed by a relocation to Baku, Azerbaijan.

• Lead and coordinate Corrosion and Coating engineering activities within the assigned project scope.
• Ensure the development and delivery of robust, coherent and traceable Corrosion and Coating engineering documentation.
• Ensure that all designs are fit for purpose and suitable for procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, commissioning and safe operation.
• Ensure compliance with the project Basis of Design, specifications, procedures, applicable standards and contractual requirements.
• Review and technically assess Corrosion, Coating and Painting engineering documentation.
• Develop, review and oversee coating and painting specifications and procedures.
• Provide specialist technical expertise in:
  • Coating and painting processes
  • Coating control
  • Corrosion-resistant materials
  • Materials selection
  • Environmental conditioning
  • Coating technologies
  • Thermal insulation
  • Passive fire protection
• Identify technical risks, deviations and potential improvements within the Corrosion and Coating scope.
• Challenge proposed engineering solutions to achieve optimized, cost-effective and fit-for-purpose designs.

Coating & Painting Qualification

• Prepare and manage scopes of work for coating application tests and qualification activities.
• Oversee the development, qualification and approval of coating procedures.
• Support plant qualifications, procedure application tests and acceptance testing.
• Work closely with QA/QC teams to ensure appropriate qualification and application of coating systems.
• Review relevant Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Participate in inspections and provide specialist technical support when required.
• Ensure coating activities comply with approved procedures, specifications and quality requirements.

Fabrication, Construction & Site Support

• Provide technical support during fabrication, transportation, installation and commissioning.
• Liaise with site representatives and QC personnel to ensure the proper execution and preservation of coating activities.
• Provide technical support covering the complete coating process, from surface preparation through application and repair procedures.
• Review engineering and fabrication documentation.
• Assess and approve technical modifications and non-conformities.
• Support punch list close-out activities.
• Support installation and hook-up activities through the review and approval of work packs and red-line documentation.
• Review and validate final project documentation, including final dossiers and as-built drawings.

• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant professional experience in Corrosion and Coating engineering within Oil & Gas projects.
• Proven experience in detailed engineering and project execution.
• Strong experience in coating and painting systems, materials selection and corrosion protection.
• Experience working with EPC/EPSCC contractors, vendors, QA/QC teams and site organizations.
• Experience supporting fabrication, construction and installation activities.
• Experience in coating qualification and application testing is highly desirable.

• Location: Chengdu, China, then Baku, Azerbaijan
• Working schedule: Resident, 5 days per week
