The real world is the next frontier, and at Metropolis, we are creating the artificial intelligence to make it responsive. We are pioneering the Recognition Economy — a future where mundane repetition disappears and being known unlocks access, comfort and belonging everywhere you go. From transforming parking into a seamless drive-in, drive-out experience for millions of Members to expanding our intelligence layer across retail and hospitality, we are building a world that feels instinctive and magical. The future isn’t coming; it’s here, and we need builders, innovators and problem solvers to help us create it.
Who you areMetropolis is seeking a Senior Core Engineer who is an adaptable, systems-level problem solver eager to build the core infrastructure powering thousands of smart spaces, computer vision edge platforms, and unified enterprise security systems globally. In this role, you will bridge edge hardware and cloud environments, architect high-performance microservices, and optimize system reliability at scale. Working alongside cross-functional teams across the US and internationally, you will leverage cutting-edge AI tools to accelerate development, drive critical architectural reviews, and deliver real-world impact in an energetic, AI-first engineering culture.
What you'll do- Design, develop, and scale high-performance microservices and edge platform services, primarily in Go
- Own critical systems spanning edge hardware such as Nvidia Jetson/Orin fleets and custom Linux/Yocto builds through to cloud services like AWS and Kubernetes
- Leverage AI development tools and agentic workflows to accelerate debugging, system analysis, and software quality
- Drive deep system reliability, memory/performance optimizations, and observability pipelines including metrics, structured logging, and real-time alerts
- Lead architectural design reviews, collaborate with teams across the US and internationally on unified migrations, and mentor fellow engineers
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field
- 6+ years of experience building complex, high-scale backend or distributed systems
- Primary backend production experience in Go, C++, Java, or similar languages
- Proven ability to reason about complex system behavior, design modular interfaces, and build for long-term scalability without over-engineering
- Hands-on experience diagnosing deep stability issues, memory/latency bottlenecks, and building telemetry using Prometheus, Fluent Bit, or similar tools
- Solid experience with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, interservice communication via gRPC, and messaging technologies like Kafka or MQTT
- Demonstrated ability to jump into unfamiliar codebases or technologies and deliver production-ready solutions quickly
- Experience leveraging modern AI tools like Cursor, Claude, Copilot, and agentic workflows as a force multiplier for code and system analysis
- Experience with Nvidia Jetson or Intel edge devices, Linux internals, custom OS builds like Yocto or Ubuntu, or IoT environments
- Exposure to real-time video processing pipelines, RTSP/SRTP streams, or GStreamer
- Familiarity with AI applications, RAG pipelines, vector databases like USearch or Faiss, or agent protocols including MCP and A2A
