The Role

ITHAKA is looking for an experienced and talented brand marketing Senior Copywriter to join our creative team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for conceptualizing and crafting compelling and engaging marketing copywriting. You’ll partner with a team of dedicated creative professionals, product marketing strategists, and marketing channel specialists to develop audience-oriented solutions that tell our story and grow awareness and engagement with our brands.


Reporting to the Principal Creative Director, this role will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members and leaders across the organization to influence and operationalize marketing and storytelling for ITHAKA’s full portfolio of nonprofit brands and services. This individual advises other writers in and outside of the organization as we integrate our voice across organic, paid, owned, and earned communication channels. The Senior Copywriter will play a crucial role in shaping our brand narrative, engaging our audiences, and driving business objectives. Your exceptional writing and editing skills, combined with a strategic mindset, will be essential in creating and distributing compelling, accurate and impactful copywriting in a range of formats.

Responsibilities    

  • Develop and execute creative and persuasive content for a wide range of marketing communications and materials using strategies and processes that support a nimble and agile marketing organization.
  • Collaborate in the development and the evolution of ITHAKA’s brand and style guides  and internal processes.
  • Understand the target audience, and the brand’s voice and tone, to ensure consistency in messaging and brand positioning across all channels including, but not limited to, digital advertising, landing pages, websites, emails, organic and paid social media, product descriptions, and video.
  • Serve as messaging and copywriting lead on brand development for new product launches and market-oriented campaigns and initiatives.
  • Manage a junior copywriter and with them review, and edit content across various channels, including blog posts, articles, social media, email campaigns, website copy, and other marketing materials.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in marketing copywriting, content development, best practices and technologies, including AI-assisted writing tools
  • Maintain high editorial standards by conducting thorough proofreading to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Optimize content for SEO to improve organic search visibility and drive traffic to our digital platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with designers and other cross-functional team members to conceptualize and execute integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Mentor in-house and freelance content contributors, providing guidance and constructive feedback.
  • Practice prioritization for time and resource management.
  • Contribute to our collaborative creative culture.

Experience and Skills

  • 7+ years of progressive experience as a marketing and brand copywriter, or in a similar writing-focused role, across a mix of agency and in-house environments.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; however, 10 or more years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience creating cohesive marketing campaign copywriting, including persuasive conversion landing pages and email marketing.
  • Experience collaborating with designers and writers on the development of brand standards with a consistent voice and flexible tone in alignment with the audience, topic, and channel.
  • Experience with interviewing and developing testimonials and stories based on user/customer experience and feedback.
  • Experience with scriptwriting or storytelling for multimedia content.
  • A collaborative and positive approach, bringing enthusiasm and energy to every project.
  • Familiarity with SEO and best practices in writing and editing for digital platforms and channels.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Google Suite (Google Docs, etc.), Monday.com, Asana, and more.

Compensation and Benefits

At ITHAKA we believe in openness and equity. Part of living those values is our commitment to clarity about salary ranges, so candidates know what to expect. The starting salary for this position ranges from $77,500- $97,000per year. Starting pay may vary with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Our total compensation package for benefits-eligible employees includes employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, an employer-paid 10% retirement contribution, paid parental and caregiver leave, 22 days of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, up to 12 sick days, gym reimbursement, and more.
