About this role
Design, documentation, and programming of building automation systems (BASs) in compliance with project plans and specifications. Proactive communication with project stakeholders including requests for information and technical risks and opportunities. Mentorship of less experienced Application Engineers in all areas of their development.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design & Documentation
- Design complete building automation systems, including controllers, sensors, networks, and hardware.
- Prepare comprehensive submittal packages and final documentation reflecting all project changes.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, company standards, and customer specifications.
- Control Strategies & Programming
- Develop sequences of operation for building systems.
- Program control algorithms and user interfaces using WebCTRL and Eikon, including third-party integrations.
- Test programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
- Commissioning & Testing
- Perform functional testing of complex systems (e.g., chiller plants, large integrations).
- Set up and execute factory witness tests as required.
- Project Support & Communication
- Provide technical support during the sales process to ensure accurate proposals.
- Identify and communicate project risks and opportunities related to cost, time, and technical factors.
- Create clear, concise RFIs and maintain proactive communication with managers and project teams.
- Leadership & Compliance
- Mentor and develop other Controls Engineers.
- Adhere to safety standards and promote a culture of safety.
- Uphold ethical standards and exemplify the Carrier code of ethics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in a BAS / HVAC controls engineer position.
Or
- High School Diploma with 10+ years’ experience in a BAS / HVAC controls engineer position.
- 5+ years of experience working with BAS software and associated engineering tools (e.g. Johnson Controls, Trane, Siemens, Automated Logic, Schneider, Honeywell).
- 3+ years of experience working with third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems, including HVAC control methodologies.
- Ability to design and program all but the most complex building automation projects.
- Skilled in interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans, specifications, and contract documents to deliver optimized, compliant designs.
- Proficient in creating clear, concise RFIs and communicating technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experienced in mentoring team members and providing technical guidance.
- Highly organized with strong time management skills; able to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Expertise in Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, and services, with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of enterprise IP networks, including layout and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Visio (or similar CAD tools) and Microsoft Office Suite (Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to develop and modify sequences of operation for building automation systems.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Reliable with valid government-issued identification and ability to report to assigned work location.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including air travel and overnight stays.
Physical Qualifications
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is between $79,000.00 - $158,000.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.Other Compensation
This position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.Benefits
