About The Company:

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business. A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight. Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet The Team:

The Finance and Accounting team keeps Torc's rapid growth on solid financial footing as we scale autonomous trucking technology within the Daimler family. As Senior Controller, you'll direct the accounting and tax function that underpins that growth — owning the close process, financial reporting, and internal controls that give leadership, our parent company, and external stakeholders confidence in our numbers. This role reports to the CFO and partners closely with FP&A, Legal, Procurement, and external auditors.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and the overall maintenance of operational management accounts.
  • Direct general ledger account reconciliation processes across the organization, ensuring data accuracy and driving timely identification and correction of errors made by internal or external personnel.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Finance leadership developing business plans and operational priorities that support Torc's goals and objectives, including planning for future needs on a global scale.
  • Own schedules and commentary on operating account results and variances, and lead production of working capital and cash-flow reporting for executive leadership.
  • Maintain and oversee accurate records and financial reporting (both internal and external) for profit and loss, taxes, liabilities, and assets across the organization.
  • Prepare and present special financial reports and analyses requested by senior leadership, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and business trends.
  • Design, monitor, and continuously improve accounting policies and procedures; lead testing and self-assessment activities as part of the Internal Controls System.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international financial requirements by monitoring existing and new legislation and its impact on the business.
  • Act as an advisor to leadership on relevant accounting trends and emerging issues on a global scale and represent Finance in cross-functional and executive discussions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting managers and professionals; identify opportunities to grow the team and build organizational capability.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping financial information confidential and handling sensitive data with sound judgment.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and best practices through professional education, publications, and industry engagement.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • CPA is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience leading or mentoring a team.
  • Demonstrated experience directing an operational accounting function with organization-wide impact, including preparing financial statements and budgets.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (Workday strongly preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with job cost accounting, inter-company accounting, and vendor/customer reconciliations.
  • Track record designing and testing internal controls (e.g., SOX-aligned processes) and driving process improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise senior leaders and translate financial data into clear business insight.
  • Strict attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Bonus Points!

  • Experience in automotive, robotics, manufacturing, or another engineering-driven technology environment.
  • Experience operating within a global, multi-entity, or parent-company/subsidiary reporting structure.
  • Experience supporting M&A integration or large-scale ERP/financial systems implementations.
  • Experience acting as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on emerging accounting or regulatory issues.
