ERM is looking for a Senior Mining Consultant to join our rapidly growing mining team. The role focusses on supporting our mining sector clients as well as mine closure advice and support.
Primary responsibilities of the Senior Mining Consultant
The new hire will ideally have an operational mining background, with the knowledge and experience to understand the challenges of projects in the mining industry. Tasks will include:
- Writing mine closure plans, from conceptual level plans to detailed design. This requires a good understanding of closure planning best-practice (such as ICMM), and will involve understanding site-specific closure risks and generating solutions.
- Performing liability estimates, as part of mine closure planning and for closure due diligence projects. This requires a good understanding of how closure is implemented on-site, and the cost implications for particular closure activities. Ideally the new hire will be familiar with the Standard Reclamation Cost Estimator (SRCE).
- Closure design: Whilst often performed by other engineering consultants, it is required to understand and interpret engineering designs and integrate them into the overall closure plan, including an understanding of the risks and cost implications.
- Whilst not essential, it would be beneficial if the new hire has operational mining experience, allowing them to become a mine-experienced person (MEP) within ERM.
Other expectations
- Analysis and report writing for mining projects
- Delivery of specific tasks within a wider project
- Working on multiple projects concurrently
- Working within a team of other consultants across the relevant ERM teams
- Posses strong knowledge of the mining industry and mine closure
- Critical thinking and numeracy skills
- The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant mining related, geology or environmental engineering discipline
- Experience in the consultancy, industry or regulatory sectors
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
