Major Duties :
Conducts investigations (under legal privilege when necessary) into sensitive/complex employment situations; provides guidance to business unit management and HR regarding employee counselling, discipline, and involuntary terminations.
Partners with HR to support and liaise with employee representative bodies across Continental Europe.
Consults with management, HR, and Legal with respect to findings.
Serves as a resource/expert on employee relations including interpreting company and business unit policies, discipline (for violations of policy), involuntary terminations, and collective redundancy exercises. Consults with management, HR, HR Compliance, and Legal regarding same.
Facilitates improvements in policies, practices, procedures based on learnings from investigations.
Participates in special projects to review and analyze Northern policies; research industry best practices, procedures and programs; facilitates change.
Identifies specific business unit employee relations needs. Works with appropriate HR or business unit representatives to plan, develop, and implement solutions. Acts as a liaison for Employee Relations (ER) to the business in order to facilitate the smooth delivery of various employee relations initiatives.
Mentors more junior Employee Relations Consultants.
Facilitates training on Employees Relations topics.
Knowledge:
Experience of supporting continental Europe locations preferred
Knowledge of working with unions or staff delegations essential
In-depth knowledge of Employee Relations (ideal candidate will hold at least 10 years’ experience), including best practices in conducting investigations.
Strong experience in corporate human resources policies and procedures and knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations.
Proven experience working closely with Legal Counsel.
Ability to identify, analyze/evaluate, and resolve ER issues and provide consultation to management.
Listening, negotiation, and analytical skills are necessary to counsel and coach managers and employees.
Develop knowledge of business unit strategies, processes and practices in order to identify ER and HR needs.
Fluency in a European language desirable
