Do you enjoy strategizing and leading strategic projects? Are you a curious team player? And can you listen to the needs of clients?

Roland Berger is a global management consultancy, and the only one with European roots, which assists clients to adapt to the challenges of today while enhancing their growth.

We are hiring a Senior Consultant to join Roland Berger’s Amsterdam office and expand the circularity team. If you answered yes to the questions above, then keep reading for a unique career opportunity!

The Roland Berger Amsterdam DNA

Roland Berger is one of the top international strategic consulting firms in the world, with over 50 offices and 3,500 dedicated colleagues worldwide. Our Amsterdam office, established in 2002, is home to about 160 professional and ambitious individuals from a range of backgrounds and nationalities.

We live by our three core values: entrepreneurship, excellence and empathy. These values form the basis of our work as consultants and our interactions with clients, business partners and communities, and define our corporate culture. We take pride in our close-knit culture, which is creative, dedicated and respectful. We support one another to excel for our clients and engage in various activities outside of work to enhance cohesiveness, from sports and drinks to trips and holiday celebrations.

What we offer

Your adventure truly begins when you start at Roland Berger. From day one, you get the space and assurance you need to keep developing yourself: we offer plenty of opportunities for development, (inter)national training courses and a mentor for support. You are also offered an individual trajectory with a coach tailored to you and your personal development plans. You can follow an MBA at a leading business school, (temporarily) transfer to another Roland Berger office or intern at another company ("externship"). You are the architect of your career. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer excellent benefits, including 30 days of vacation, an electric lease car, a non-contributory pension and a contribution to your health insurance premium.

What you will be doing

As a Senior Consultant at Roland Berger focusing on circularity, you will collaborate closely with founding partner Arnoud van der Slot, serving both national and international clients on projects centered around circularity, specifically on waste management and recycling initiatives. Your role within the team will be crucial, as you take on the responsibility in expanding our expertise and footprint in the circularity sector and leading projects toward sustainable success. You will engage in creative problem-solving, exploring new technologies, business models, and strategies to optimize resource use and minimize waste.

The projects primarily take place in an international setting, as the project teams at this moment are predominantly international. With increasing global awareness of environmental issues, there's a growing demand for circularity expertise and there is a steady stream of diverse projects in this dynamic field. The clientele for each project differs, ranging from industrial enterprises, Private Equity firms, and technology suppliers to policymakers all focusing on circularity, in particular waste management and recycling.

As a Senior Consultant at Roland Berger you will:

  • Take the lead for modules in larger projects, and complete project management of smaller projects (typically leading three to five consultants), with a specific focus on circularity.

  • Coach and develop the consultants in your project teams.

  • Have direct client contact and lead presentations during client meetings.

  • Work closely with industry experts at Roland Berger.

  • Contribute to Roland Berger’s knowledge development by capturing insights and drawing lessons from client work.

  • Participate in office-wide projects (e.g. in-depth studies on current topics) that further develop Roland Berger or its thinking in a specific area or sector.

Qualifications

Who we seek

At Roland Berger we are looking for people who are genuinely interested in our clients and their challenges, have an entrepreneurial spirit and want to work hard to deliver the highest quality possible. We are looking for people who recognize themselves in these values, who can think big, dare to dream, see connections and make connections, are curious self-starters and can enrich our team.

Do you recognize yourself in the following qualifications, competencies and skills?

  • You have completed an academic university education (i.e. WO).

  • You have between four and seven years of experience in (strategy) consulting, with a focus on waste management and/or recycling being highly preferred, and/or experience in a strategic or operational role within the waste management and/or recycling industry. Prior experience in strategic, project-based work is required.

  • You have experience managing others and delegating work to more junior team members.

  • You are familiar with/experienced in (financial) modeling (Microsoft Excel), visualizing presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint) and storytelling.

  • You can think analytically and structure arguments clearly.

  • You work with precision.

  • You are open-minded.

  • You have good oral, written and presentation skills and an excellent command of English and Dutch.

Additional Information

Healthy work-life balance

The right work-life balance is critical to performing at such a high level. We understand that this balance differs per person and life phase. Your mentor will help you to organize your work in a way that suits you and your life goals. Because we work on a project basis, we can be flexible with leave, even if you want to take a long trip or volunteer for a while.

Diversity

We believe that a team of unique professionals, with diverse backgrounds and qualities, bring out the best in each other and delivers the best results for our clients. This diversity is essential because the variety of perspectives and qualities inspires our work, fostering greater creativity and success. Our international character makes us a diverse firm, and we actively seek individuals who can contribute to our office by leveraging their unique backgrounds, perspectives and strengths.

Following a positive outcome from these interviews, candidates will progress to the Final Day. The Final Day involves two (case) interviews with different Partners and/or Principals, as well as a written case with a presentation component. At the conclusion of the Final Day, you will receive feedback on the outcome of your application process.
