As a Senior Component Engineer – Semiconductors at Ciena, this role directly influences the quality, reliability, and long-term performance of the semiconductor technologies that power industry-leading networking solutions. The position shapes component strategy, strengthens supplier partnerships, and drives technical decisions that protect product integrity and customer experience across the lifecycle.
 

How you will make an impact:

  • Define qualification requirements aligned with industry standards to ensure semiconductor component reliability

  • Oversee coding, documentation, and lifecycle management for semiconductor components

  • Lead qualification activities for components and integrated modules

  • Drive supplier audits, development initiatives, and compliance validation within the system of record

  • Assess and manage product change notifications while aligning cross-functional stakeholders to resolution paths

  • Lead rapid issue resolution in collaboration with contract manufacturer quality teams and component suppliers

  • Evaluate alternate components to mitigate design, supply chain, and quality risks
     

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in component engineering or semiconductor design, fabrication, or manufacturing

  • Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor fabrication, packaging, performance, failure mechanisms, and reliability

  • Strong knowledge of Telcordia Technologies standards (Telcordia) and Institute for Printed Circuits standards (IPC)

  • Experience managing end-of-life notices, product change notifications, and component-level issue resolution

  • Ability to review test yield data and lead corrective actions in partnership with design teams

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
     

Nice to haves:

  • Experience mentoring or training engineers

  • Background supporting cost-reduction initiatives or supplier negotiations

  • Familiarity with contract manufacturer workflows and quality systems

  • Knowledge of database and component management tools

  • Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering environments

  • Experience influencing cross-functional design decisions

  • Strong problem-solving mindset applied to complex component challenges
     

Pay Range:

  • The annual pay range for this position in Canada is $107,000 – $170,800

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
