About the Role
As a Senior Compliance Manager at TabaPay, you will play a critical role in assessing prospective clients and strategic partnerships through comprehensive compliance due diligence and control reviews. You will lead the evaluation of complex business models, payment use cases, and regulatory requirements to determine onboarding eligibility and identify risk mitigation strategies. As a subject matter expert, you will partner closely with internal stakeholders, Partner Banks, Payment Networks, and clients while driving continuous improvements to onboarding processes, policies, and governance. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Director of Client Due Diligence.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end Compliance Due Diligence and Control Reviews for prospective clients, evaluating regulatory, operational, financial crime, and payment ecosystem risks.
- Assess complex business models, payment flows, and use cases to determine regulatory requirements, onboarding supportability, and appropriate risk mitigation.
- Review the design and effectiveness of clients' compliance programs, policies, procedures, and controls.
- Recommend onboarding decisions based on compliance review findings and serve as the primary compliance advisor for high-risk or complex opportunities.
- Act as the subject matter expert for Compliance Risk Analysts, providing guidance on Customer Due Diligence, Enhanced Due Diligence, sanctions screening, and onboarding requirements.
- Partner with clients, Partner Banks, Payment Networks, and internal stakeholders to facilitate onboarding and sponsorship approvals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Partner Banks to understand institution-specific compliance requirements and risk appetite.
- Develop and enhance compliance policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and onboarding frameworks.
- Lead strategic initiatives that improve onboarding quality, operational efficiency, governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor regulatory and Card Network developments and incorporate changes into onboarding practices and internal guidance.
Who You Are
- 6+ years of experience in Compliance, Underwriting, Risk, or a related function within payments or financial services. Experience with a payment processor, Payment Facilitator, acquiring bank, acquiring ISO, sponsor bank, fintech, or regulated financial institution is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience leading compliance due diligence and control assessments for regulated financial services or payments clients.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. regulatory frameworks applicable to payments, including BSA/AML requirements, OFAC sanctions, CIP, CDD, EDD, FinCEN guidance, state money transmission licensing considerations, and other applicable federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating clients' AML/BSA, sanctions, licensing, consumer regulatory, and financial crime compliance programs and controls.
- Strong understanding of Merchant Acquiring, card payments, ACH, Real-Time Payments, and Visa and Mastercard Rules.
- Demonstrated ability to assess complex business models and develop practical, risk-based recommendations.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable guidance.
- Experience designing or improving compliance processes, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Experience coaching and mentoring junior compliance professionals through technical guidance and subject matter expertise.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to Have
- ACAMS certification strongly preferred. Other relevant compliance or payments industry certifications, such as CAFP, CAMS-Audit, or CRCM, will also be considered.
- Knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks applicable to payments and money movement, including FINTRAC, the PCMLTFA, and provincial money services business requirements.
- Experience supporting innovative payment models, including embedded finance, fintech platforms, digital wallets, earned wage access, marketplace payments, or other emerging payment solutions.
The pay range for this position is $120,000 for base pay; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits as listed below, dependent on the position offered.
