The Role
Design and optimize a compiler toolchain for transforming quantum programs into gates, ensuring integration into the tool suite while mentoring junior members.
Summary Generated by Built In
Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing €100 million of funding in 2025 to develop our unique technology.
Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!
About the role
As a Senior Quantum Compilation Scientist, you will design, develop, and optimize the compilation toolchain that transforms quantum programs into physical gates for our quantum processors. This implies working at the intersection of quantum information science, theoretical computer science, computer architecture, and software engineering, and directly impacting the performance and scalability of our quantum systems.
Responsibilities
- Understand, design and build intermediate representations and a quantum computing compiler, to best use our fault-tolerant architecture.
- Ensure the integration of the compilation into Alice & Bob’s tool suite, and take into account user needs, interacting with the software and business teams.
- Design metrics for quantum compilers, and maximise performances of our compiler.
- Apply for and secure patents.
- Contribute to the scientific community by publishing your results and presenting your work at conferences.
- Mentor junior members of the team, interns, and PhD students.
Requirements
- 2+ years (post-PhD) of experience (or equivalent) in academia or industry (scientist position) on quantum computing or compiler design and implementation.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: quantum compilation, quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum algorithms, classical language and compilation theory.
- Proficiency in Python and at least a compiled language e.g. C++, Rust, etc. (Experience with other relevant languages is a plus).
- Good attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Professional-level English proficiency, both written and spoken.
Benefits
- Our success is your success : own it with our BSPCE plan
- Direct IP Compensation: Earn substantial bonuses for driving the core patents that define our quantum architecture.
- Flexible remote policy, up to 40 % a month
- A Parental Plan including additional benefits such as crèche support or additional days-off to take care of under 12 years old children
- Subsidized membership with Urban Sports Club
- Mental health support with moka.care
- 25-day vacation policy (as per French law) + RTT
- Half of transportation cost coverage (as per French law), or yearly allowance for the die-hard bicycle users
- Competitive health coverage, with Helium/Axa
- Meal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped and regularly stocked kitchen
- French language courses covered by the company for those intereste
Recruitment Process
- Screening Call with Grace, Talent Acquisition Specialist (30 min)
- Hiring Manager Interview with Elie (60 min)
- Technical Interview/Presentation with the Team (90 min)
- Leadership/Fit Interview (45 min)
