Overall Responsibilities:

The Senior Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in developing internal communications strategies and plans; enhancing MSH’s communication tools; and implementing a variety of communications, knowledge management, and change management initiatives for both home office and field-based staff.

1. Manage internal communications and engagement strategy - 15%

  • Create and implement an annual internal communications and engagement strategy with goals (outcomes), activities, and measures of success.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of existing channels and activities; implement improvements; retire outdated channels; and develop new ones as needed.
  • Establish and maintain production schedule(s) for all internal content and events encompassed in the strategy.

2. Produce and quality control internal content - 50%

  • Produce the weekly global internal newsletter, Friday Focus.
  • Produce an alumni newsletter quarterly.
  • Produce worldwide internal communications from the CEO, including monthly emails and blogs.
  • Support worldwide internal communications from all other MSH internal stakeholders.
  • Manage announcements and events on the MSH intranet, updating at least weekly.
  • Manage MSH staff blogs.
  • Manage the CEO’s content on the MSH intranet.
  • Manage relevant Viva Engage channels, including All Company.
  • Support staff with original content needs (video, writing, graphics) on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Support MSH staff capacity to use available platforms for internal communications and engagement.

3. Manage internal events - 30%

  • Assist Chief of Staff and Chief Communications & External Affairs Officer in producing three global staff meetings per year.
  • Manage monthly and annual in-person social events in the US (Arlington, VA) office
  • Contribute, on a rotating basis, to leading monthly MSH Global Knowledge Exchanges – internal webinars for MSH staff to share experiences and evidence from their work, to foster engagement and cross-team learning.

4. Contribute to organizational Requirements - 5%

  • Contribute to implementing, socializing, and measuring progress against relevant organizational strategies including the MSH Strategy FY23-30.
  • Participate in Communications department meetings and initiatives as required
  • Provide backup for related Communications Department functions, including MSH external website updates.
  • Participate in MSH required processes, courses, and initiatives (required learning, annual performance reviews, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the areas of communications, journalism, or similar.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPEREINCE:

  • 4 years working on communications programs, preferably for a global organization with a focus on strategy, enhancing communications, improving services, and engaging employees. Experience working on internal communications.
  • Experience with multimedia platforms, website development, and management. Experience ghost-writing for executives.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication, writing, planning, and organizational skills
  • Experience in coordinating activities and managing relationships with employees, content administrators, stakeholders, IT teams, and external agencies.
