Position Summary 

We are currently seeking prospective candidates for an upcoming opportunity with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This requirement provides critical mission support across various technical, program management, and administrative functions to assist ORR in its mission to promote the health, well-being, and stability of refugees and unaccompanied children. The Senior Communications Manager oversees public-facing content, stakeholder engagement, and digital content strategy for Refugee Resettlement and Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) programs.  

Candidates must reside in the Washington-D.C. area full-time but able to travel intermittently in support of ORR-funded programs across the continental United States. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the duties listed below: 

  • Help develop and implement cohesive communications and outreach strategies informed by agency mission and goals.  
  • Draft and edit external communications, including press releases, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts.  
  • Create, edit, and publish approved text, graphics, and video content for agency websites.  
  • Assist in researching and drafting timely responses to media inquiries.  
  • Draft and circulate outreach materials for agency beneficiaries, grant recipients, and partners across various sectors.  
  • Optimize web content for search engines and track site performance metrics using analytic tools.  
  • Ensure all products meet the standards of the Plain Writing Act of 2010 and are 508 compliant.  
  • Assist in planning events, including agenda development, speaker coordination, and promotional material design.  
  • Support ongoing engagement through working groups, remote events, and in-person sessions.  
  • Assist in the research, formatting, and publication of formal reports for website distribution.  

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in public relations, communications, or digital media. 
  • Leadership: Minimum 3 years of supervisory or team lead experience. 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a relevant subject; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Certification: Relevant professional certification preferred.

Skills Required
