Senior Comms Engineer (f/m/d)
About Satellogic
Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.
We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.
Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.
With a team distributed across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.
About the team
The Satellite Communications team in our Research & Development group is in charge of design, development, verification, implementation, validation and maintenance of both the satellite and ground segment of our communication and RF systems, encompassing the bidirectional link for telemetry and commands, the payload data downlink, RF sensors and other communication links.
Our team owns, plans, defines the design and validates the entire system, from hardware to software, protocols, standards, providers and interfaces with other subsystems, ensuring reliability and performance to provide seamless and mission-ready satellite communications.
Being responsible for a critical aspect of our satellites, the team is always learning and trying to push the limits, tackling both a myriad of technical aspects and the coordination of efforts and people from different areas of the company.
About the position
As a Comms Engineer, you will take full ownership and responsibility of the end-to-end solution and architecture of all the RF and communication systems on the satellite, both in flight and on the ground. In this role, you will tackle complex system-level challenges where technical execution intersects with operational processes, cross-functional teams, and business strategy. You will design, maintain, enhance, and implement communication solutions in a fast-paced environment for hardware-constrained satellite and ground station systems.
Location
This role operates on a hybrid model. Our primary preference is Buenos Aires. Availability to travel is required, specifically to the facility in Uruguay, client sites, potential clients, or suppliers as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, validation, and maintenance of satellite communication systems, including hardware and software components for flight and ground station segments.
- Develop and maintain RF communication architectures, defining system requirements and technical specifications based on mission objectives and user needs.
- Analyze and optimize communication system performance through simulations, including link budgets, reliability analysis, and RF performance modeling.
- Troubleshoot existing and emerging satellite communication systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective solutions.
- Perform hands-on laboratory testing, characterization, measurement, and debugging of RF systems, radio components, and antenna prototypes.
- Support the development and integration of RF boards, communication subsystems, and antenna solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to satellite operations teams.
- Collaborate with the Communications Engineering team through design reviews, peer reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional engineering activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of communication system processes, tools, and engineering methodologies.
