Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Commercial Finance (All-Island), the key duties and responsibilities will be:
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance revenue, efficiency, and long-term productivity across the business, delivering tangible commercial value.
- Overseeing key commercial risks, including revenue and cost hedging strategies, ensuring robust mitigation measures are in place.
- Delivering insightful financial and operational KPIs to support asset performance and meet group reporting standards.
- Assisting the GB team in evaluating capital investments and business development opportunities, ensuring commercial viability and risk mitigation during business establishment phases.
- Designing and negotiating new contractual arrangements to optimize commercial outcomes and manage risk, whilst overseeing contractor litigation and developing mitigation strategies for existing agreements.
- Fostering collaboration across the organization to identify future commercial opportunities, streamline processes, and share best practices across the Group.
- Ensuring that regulatory updates and changes are assessed based on the commercial impact on the business and align regulatory strategy to optimise commercial outcomes.
- Leading business planning activities across the All-Island operations, aligning strategic goals with operational execution.
- Promoting economically sound decision-making through robust economic analysis and high-quality management information, supporting investment, procurement, and operational strategies.
- Providing commercial and economic insights to align business planning with maintenance and investment strategies, ensuring both short-term and long-term objectives are met.
- Leveraging data analysis to enhance contractor performance, focusing on cost flexibility, maintenance efficiency, and investment planning.
- Supporting the analysis of gross margin for the Island of Ireland portfolio, including market modeling of revenues (capacity, energy, ancillary) and costs (fuel, O&M), to inform: commodity and hedging strategies; budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning; business development initiatives; regulatory and TSO negotiations; commercial contract management.
- Negotiating fuel and commodity agreements, including physical and financial instruments (futures, options, freight).
- Providing commercial and financial guidance on the management of existing operating assets within the All-Island business.
- Producing detailed reports covering market positions, key trends, hedging status, mark-to-market valuations, credit exposure, and related metrics.
- Collaborating with the Dublin trading team to evaluate and support effective trading and long-term hedging strategies, whilst ensuring all bids are aligned with policy and cost recovery requirements.
- Ensuring adherence to risk management policies and procedures through regular review of commercial activities.
- Contributing to the development and management of team members, fostering a high-performance culture.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Background
- Experience of managing and prioritising multiple competing demands on time.
- Experience of Commercial evaluation and negotiations eg, Procurement, Acquisitions and due diligence and Contractual disputes.
- Experience of litigation management.
- Able to employ complex analytical tools and statistics to performance analysis and forecasting of financial and other business information.
- Knowledge of investment analysis.
- Knowledge of process improvement and change management activities.
- Knowledge of the ISEM market and trading would be an advantage.

- Excellent analytical skills, being able to digest large amounts of data (numerical and text), identifying the key issues and presenting these in a concise and clear manner to non subject matter experts.

Qualifications
- Minimum 2:1 Honours Degree in a Finance, Business, Economics or Engineering related subject.
