About the role
AGL’s Origination Analytics team have an exciting 12-month fixed term opportunity for a Senior Commercial Analyst - Wholesale Trading & Origination.
Based in Melbourne, you’ll be playing a key role in evaluating major energy opportunities, developing commercial insights and supporting key decision making around AGL’s ambitious energy transition as we target 12GW of new renewable generation and firming by 2035.
Our Analytics teams partner directly with the origination team while also supporting our trading, power development, finance and risk teams. This role is the interface between data driven decision making and strategic execution.
What you’ll do:
- Build and maintain commercial models to assess value, risks and opportunities across renewables, batteries, flexible assets, gas transport/storage, carbon units and wholesale energy deals.
- Provide commercial input and pricing support for large retail energy deals and major customer negotiations.
- Analyse AGL’s long‑term energy, capacity, gas and carbon positions, developing insights that inform trading and investment decisions.
- Produce scenario analysis, market insights and portfolio reporting to guide strategic decisions across Origination, Risk, Finance and Corporate Development.
- Collaborate with Trading, Power Development, Finance, Risk and Origination stakeholders to ensure alignment on deal valuation, portfolio impacts and commercial strategy.
What you’ll bring:
- Tertiary degree in quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, engineering, economics or equivalent)
- Demonstrated analytical capability with experience building commercial or financial models and interpreting complex data.
- Ability to translate modelling outputs into clear commercial insights for decision makers
- Proven stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to partner across technical, commercial and strategic teams.
- Curiosity and a growth mindset, with an interest in energy markets, renewables, trading or derivative‑style products.
