GQ is looking for a sharp, authoritative and culturally engaged Senior Commerce Writer, Style to join the GQ Commerce team, with a focus on menswear, fashion and style.
This role is suited to an experienced writer and storyteller with a keen eye for menswear trends, deep knowledge of the fashion and retail landscape, and a strong understanding of the products, brands and pieces that drive how men shop. We’re looking for someone who can identify what audiences are searching for, spot an emerging trend or commercial opportunity, develop a compelling editorial angle and translate those insights into distinctive, authoritative GQ storytelling.
The successful candidate will combine strong editorial judgment with an analytical and commercial mindset, understanding both what makes a great fashion story and what drives audience engagement and shopping behavior. They should be as comfortable developing an SEO- or GEO-led evergreen story as they are reporting on a new menswear trend, writing a first-person product review, contributing to a seasonal shopping package or creating social-first video content.
They will help shape GQ’s fashion commerce coverage, developing new franchises and identifying key seasonal, cultural and shopping opportunities relevant to the GQ audience.
This writer should also be comfortable developing stories across multiple platforms and formats, understanding how an idea can extend across GQ.com, newsletters, search, social and video while maintaining a distinctive and consistent GQ point of view.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Write distinctive, authoritative commerce and service journalism spanning all categories of menswear and fashion, maintaining GQ’s editorial standards and reader trust.
- Bring a keen eye for menswear trends and a strong understanding of the brands, retailers, designers and products driving how men dress and shop.
- Produce a mix of product recommendations, trend stories, reviews, first-person testing, service journalism, evergreen guides and reported features.
- Contribute ideas and stories to tentpole shopping packages around key fashion, retail and cultural moments, from Fashion Month to sale season.
- Develop original franchises and repeatable editorial formats that build audience loyalty and strengthen GQ’s authority in menswear and shopping.
- Think beyond the written article, developing content for GQ.com, newsletters, social and video, including social-first, UGC and personality-led formats.
- Apply SEO and GEO best practices, using search trends and audience behavior to identify what readers are looking for and inform editorial ideas.
- Bring an analytical mindset to content performance, using audience and commerce data to identify high-performing brands, products and categories, optimize existing content and identify new opportunities.
- Collaborate with editorial, social, video, design, audience development, partnerships and other teams to ensure strong execution and promotion across channels.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brands, retailers, PR contacts and relevant industry sources.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience writing and creating content in a fast-paced digital media environment, ideally across fashion, menswear, commerce or service journalism, with a strong editorial voice and excellent fashion judgment.
- Deep knowledge of menswear, with a keen eye for emerging trends and a strong understanding of the brands, retailers, products and categories influencing how men shop today.
- Strong knowledge of SEO and GEO best practices and an analytical mindset, using audience, search and commerce data to identify opportunities, understand shopping behavior and improve editorial performance.
- A proven ability to originate ideas and franchises across platforms, creating compelling content for articles, newsletters, social and short-form video, including UGC and first-person storytelling.
- A highly collaborative, self-motivated approach, with the ability to take ownership of work, manage multiple stories and deadlines, and work effectively across teams.
Above all, we’re looking for someone with a clear editorial point of view that can turn that into a commerce opportunity. A journalist who understands menswear and the market behind it, can anticipate what GQ readers will want to know and shop next, and turn those insights into distinctive, authoritative GQ storytelling.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $85,000-$90,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
