Overview

The Senior CNC Machinist performs complex machining operations using manual and CNC machines to produce intricate parts, tooling, and assemblies in support of company manufacturing and engineering requirements. This individual is also responsible for the setup, machining and repair of tool & dies, fixtures, molds, and mechanical components.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD files, and technical specifications to determine machining methods, sequencing, tooling, work holding, and inspection requirements to manufacture a wide variety of precision parts and components.
  • Advanced setup and operating CNC and manual equipment; vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC lathes, drill presses, grinders.
  • Determines and set speeds, feeds, and machining processes based on material, geometry, and tolerance sequences to achieve required dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Inspects finished parts and in-process components using precision measuring equipment to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Clean, deburr, scribe, and otherwise prepare parts as required.
  • Assists with process improvements and ensures safety, quality and on-time production.
  • Perform CNC program edits and adjustments as necessary to produce parts to specification.
  • Perform fitting, trimming, and other operations on tools, dies, fixtures, and assemblies.  
  • Assemble, repair, modify, and troubleshoot precision tooling and mechanical components.
  • Determine appropriate methods for correcting dimensional issues and achieving proper fit and function.
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical school training preferred.
  • OJT training in machining, tool and die, CNC machining, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years in precision machining, CNC machining, & tool and die.
  • Able to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Able to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Able to apply advanced shop math, geometry, and trigonometry, including handbook formulas.
  • Proficient in measuring and inspection equipment; micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, surface gauges, levels, and protractors.
  • Able to perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on machine shop equipment.
  • Able to assist in training and mentoring junior machinists and other shop personnel.
  • Share technical knowledge and experience to improve the capabilities and efficiency of the machine shop.

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.


All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
