Job Description:
We Dream. We Do. We Deliver.
At Merkle, a dentsu company, we power the experience economy. Whether we’re building the next great app, running CRM at scale for global brands, delivering technology architectures that support millions of users, or providing world-class data, identity, and insights solutions, it’s all in the name of crafting experiences that set brands apart from the competition. Backed by dentsu's legacy of innovation and creativity originating in Japan, we’ve spent over 35 years helping brands build loyalty, drive growth, and connect meaningfully with their audiences.
We’ve been named a global “Leader” by top industry analyst firms in categories as wide-ranging as digital transformation and commerce, experience design, engineering and technology integration, digital marketing, data science, CRM and loyalty, and customer data management.
We are looking for someone able to:
- Design and implement scalable, event-driven backend services on AWS, with Lambda as the primary compute layer alongside API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, and Step Functions
- Write performant Lambda functions with a solid grasp of cold-start mitigation, execution context reuse, provisioned concurrency, and idempotency patterns
- Architect cloud infrastructure using IaC (AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation) and own it end-to-end from design through to deployment
- Build and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs with a focus on security, versioning, and developer experience
- Own and optimise CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / GitHub Actions), enforcing automated testing, security scanning, and seamless production deployments
- Model and query both relational (PostgreSQL / Aurora) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases effectively
- Instrument serverless systems for observability, structured logging, distributed tracing, and monitoring via CloudWatch, Datadog, or equivalent
- Contribute meaningfully in a Scrum environment, breaking down complex technical initiatives into well-defined user stories
- Champion the use of AI-assisted development tooling (GitHub Copilot, Kiro, etc.) to raise the team's overall velocity
Your profile:
- 7+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with a significant portion in cloud-native, serverless architectures
- Expert-level TypeScript and modern JavaScript; strong Node.js background with production experience in NestJS, Express, or Fastify
- Deep hands-on AWS experience, you think in serverless patterns, not just services
- Comfortable owning architectural decisions and articulating them clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders
- High standards around code quality, test coverage, and peer review
- Curious about how AI tooling is reshaping engineering workflows, and proactive about applying it practically
- AWS certification (Developer or Solutions Architect) is a plus, as is experience with Kubernetes/EKS or the Serverless Framework
What’s in It for You?
