Pacific Life is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer II to help build and evolve the next generation of cloud platform capabilities supporting our Unified Cloud strategy. This role is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about automation, cloud technologies, and emerging AI capabilities.
As a member of the Cloud Platform Engineering team, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of foundational platform services spanning AWS, Azure, and private cloud environments. You will partner with senior engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and reusable capabilities that enable application teams to innovate more efficiently while maintaining enterprise standards for governance, security, and operational excellence.
The successful candidate is a curious and motivated learner who enjoys solving problems, automating manual processes, and exploring new technologies. This role provides opportunities to contribute across platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code, AI-enabled engineering initiatives, cloud foundations, and automation frameworks while developing the technical breadth and depth expected of a future senior engineer. This role aligns with the Cloud Platform Engineering mission of delivering cloud foundations, automation, governance, networking, and self-service capabilities for enterprise adoption.
How you'll help us move forward:
Platform Engineering
Contribute to the development and enhancement of enterprise cloud platform capabilities across AWS, Azure, and private cloud environments.
Assist in the design and implementation of cloud foundations, landing zone components, shared services, and platform standards.
Support the creation of reusable engineering patterns that enable teams to consume cloud services safely and efficiently.
Participate in platform modernization initiatives supporting the Unified Cloud strategy.
Infrastructure as Code and Automation
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and related tooling.
Contribute to reusable Terraform modules, templates, and engineering accelerators.
Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort through automation and self-service capabilities.
Support automation initiatives leveraging APIs, scripting, and platform integration technologies.
Participate in the continuous improvement of engineering workflows and operational processes.
AI and Emerging Technologies
Explore, evaluate, and help implement AI-enabled engineering, automation, and emerging technologies that improve platform capabilities, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.
Contribute to automation opportunities utilizing emerging AI tools and technologies.
Research and evaluate new platform technologies, cloud services, and engineering practices.
Partner with senior engineers to develop innovative solutions that improve platform operations and user experience.
Cloud Engineering and Operations
Assist with the implementation and support of AWS and Azure platform services.
Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of platform-related issues.
Support cloud governance, security, compliance, and operational excellence initiatives.
Develop foundational knowledge of cloud networking, connectivity, and hybrid-cloud architectures.
Collaboration and Continuous Learning
Collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, security teams, and business partners.
Participate in design reviews, knowledge sharing, and engineering discussions.
Demonstrate ownership of assigned work while seeking guidance when appropriate.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and continuously develop technical skills.
The experience you bring:
5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, or related technical disciplines.
Foundational knowledge of AWS cloud services.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools such as Terraform.
Experience with scripting or automation using technologies such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
Understanding of source control concepts and tools such as Git.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
