Senior Cloud Engineer (Storage)

Awetomaton is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support a new customer by architecting and operating AWS object storage and data-management solutions spanning multiple core and edge sites, including locations with intermittent or bandwidth-constrained connectivity. In this role, you will design caching, time-to-live, and cache-seeding strategies to keep data performant and consistent across distributed sites and implement cloud-native interfaces to downstream applications and users. If you've solved distributed storage, caching, or edge-data problems in commercial cloud environments, this role applies that expertise to a mission requiring fast, reliable data access. 

We are looking for a candidate to start in the August 2026 timeframe. This position allows hybrid flexibility but will require weekly site visits and customer meetings in Dayton, OH. 

DoD Top Secret clearance is required. For highly qualified candidates, we will sponsor. 

Criteria for success 

• Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with peers & decision makers 
• Demonstrate expertise in AWS object storage architecture and data management across distributed core and edge sites 
• Design caching, TTL, and data-distribution strategies that maximize performance, consistency, and reliability under variable connectivity conditions 
• Proven ability to automate data management workflows to reduce toil and increase reliability 
• Tenacity when tackling storage security, access control, and compliance requirements 

Required Experience and Skills 

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 6+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, storage engineering, or distributed systems, with a strong focus on AWS object storage
• Experience designing caching strategies, TTL/expiration policies, and data pre-positioning (cache seeding) across multiple sites or environments
• Experience with cloud-native storage access interfaces (e.g., CSI, s3fs, Mountpoint for S3, FUSE-based file systems, or similar)
• Comfortable operating in containerized, Kubernetes-based environments
• U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance

Desired Education and Experience 

• Prior experience supporting DoW or IC programs 
• Experience with edge computing, disconnected/degraded/intermittent/limited-bandwidth (DDIL) environments, or multi-site data replication
• Familiarity with data lifecycle management, tiered storage, or storage cost-optimization strategies
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar) for storage provisioning
• Experience with Crossplane or similar service layer abstraction tooling 
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Gitlab CI and ArgoCD
• Familiarity with Agile development framework
