Senior Climate Resilience Consultant (State & Local Focus)


Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with a requirement to work from either our New York City, NY or Arlington, VA office two days per week. A fully remote work option may be considered for highly qualified candidates.


ICF is an industry leader in supporting government and private sector clients in understanding their risks from climate change and developing solutions to increase their resiliency. ICF is hiring a manager-level position to support our clients in enhancing their infrastructure climate change resiliency.  This position will work in a larger team to help steer projects to meet the ultimate goals of our clients.  The successful hire will be responsible for interacting with clients, managing projects and budgets, overseeing junior staff, and ensuring exceptional services and products for our clients.

  • Conducting state-level or regional community and infrastructure vulnerability and risk assessments and developing resilience plans.
  • Mainstreaming resilience into organizational processes like capital improvement planning process or developing adaptation pathways.
  • Helping public agencies build the business case for investing in resilience and build financing strategies for resilience.
  • Creating climate resilience design guidelines to guide infrastructure project development.

Minimum Qualifications to Apply:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in environmental science, climate science, sustainability, engineering, urban or regional planning, public policy, natural resources, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in climate change or resilience, conducting system-level risk and vulnerability assessments.
  • Experience managing project tasks, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client relationships.
  • Experience overseeing, mentoring, or developing junior staff.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook in a professional work environment.

Preferred Qualifications to highlight in your resume:

  • Previous experience working for or with state or local government organizations
  • Experience in climate change or resilience topics, state and municipal infrastructure financing, urban planning, overseeing or mentoring staff, and/or managing tasks or projects.
  • Comfort working with GIS, R, and/or Python.
  • Experience developing climate adaptation and resiliency plans.
  • Ability to keep a team on strict schedules and within budget. 
  • Certified Floodplain Manager or AICP-certification is a plus.
  • Experience with adaptation financing/funding is also a plus.

Additional Skills:

  • The ability to understand the bigger picture goals of a project and then break down the work into logical and manageable steps.
  • Comfort working with data and scientific information.
  • Excellent communication skills, including to be able to synthesize detailed and complex information, identify salient points, and explain it in clear language.
  • Experience facilitating efficient and effective meetings.

 

Compensation: Although the posted range below is broader, this position is anticipated to offer a base salary from $100,000 - $120,000. Actual compensation may vary based on the candidate’s experience, education, and other relevant factors.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$81,499.00 - $167,644.00
