Joining Razer will place you on a global mission to revolutionize the way the world games. Razer is a place to do great work, offering you the opportunity to make an impact globally while working across a global team located across 5 continents. Razer is also a great place to work, providing you the unique, gamer-centric #LifeAtRazer experience that will put you in an accelerated growth, both personally and professionally.

Job Responsibilities :

The Senior Character Designer conceives and leads the creation of new avatars from the ground up (including the identity, backstory, emotional register, visual world). This role owns how the avatars look, moves, and express themselves. Directs the full visual pipeline from concept art through animation to marketplace skins. Work with an external production studio to develop assets and align with internal narrative teams to ensure the characters feel right when it comes to life in our software.
This creative leadership role will help in the setup of the vision for specific avatar companion characters and their visual identity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Character conception: Define new companion avatars: who they are, their identity, backstory, emotional signature, worldview, role in the user's life, and aesthetic world. Produce character bibles that serve as the canonical reference for all downstream work (AI personality tuning, voice direction, visual design, animation, skins). Ensure each new companion avatar fills a distinct archetype gap in the roster and passes the product's four-lens evaluation (psychology, relationship, product, character).
  • Visual design direction: Own the visual identity of each companion avatar (appearance, silhouette, color language, signature details, wardrobe logic). Create or direct concept art, mood boards, and reference packages. Ensure visual identity reinforces personality (a avatar character should look like who they are).
  • Animation direction: Define animation requirements for each companion avatar: idle behavior, conversational gestures, emotional expressions, attention cues, signature moves. Produce animation briefs that communicate personality through movement.  How does this specific avatar stands, reacts, listens, and celebrates. Ensure animation is distinct per avatar character, not shared from a generic library.
  • Skin and marketplace creative: Conceive skin options across tiers (recolors, themed outfits, full transformations). Ensure every skin is personality-coherent — it should feel like the avatar character chose this look. Work with the content release schedule to plan skin pipelines, seasonal themes, and avatar character launch bundles. Direct themed drops that work across the roster.
  • Studio management: Work with the external production house/studio for asset development. Translate character and skin concepts into production-ready briefs. Review deliverables against character bibles and visual standards. Hold quality on everything that ships.
  • Character validation: Review companion avatar character behavior in the engine to validate that personality and identity feel consistent with the character as designed. Flag mismatches between the character bible and the live experience. This is a review and direction role, not hands-on trait tuning — the AI/ML team handles implementation, but this role is the quality bar for whether the result feels right.

Pre-Requisites :

Qualifications

  • Background in character design, art direction, or creative direction — ideally in games, animation, or interactive entertainment where characters are products, not illustrations.
  • Thinks in both identity and visuals. Can articulate who a character is (values, emotional register, role in someone's life) and what they look like — and why those two things must be coherent.
  • Experience directing external studios or production houses. Comfortable writing briefs, reviewing work, and holding quality across a pipeline they don't personally execute.
  • Understands that avatar characters are different from game characters. The user isn't playing as the character; they are avatar companion characters. Visual and character design must serve attachment and trust, not spectacle.
  • Opinionated about animation as character expression. Believes idle behavior and subtle motion are as important as hero poses.
  • Comfortable reviewing AI-generated conversation to assess whether an avatar character "feels right"; even if they're not responsible for configuring the system.
