You won't just find us in supermarkets though. As well as owning a household retail brand, our respected foodservice business works in close partnership with distributors, chefs and caterers across thousands of the country's pubs, restaurants, hospitals and schools.
From our humble beginnings in the rural community of Florenceville, Canada, McCain Foods is now a global business! We have operations within six continents, with plant sites and offices across the world.
Our potatoes might be beige, but our careers are far from it.
We're recruiting for a Senior Category Manager to join our Wholesale Distributors team.
ABOUT THE JOB.
Ultimately, it's the job of our Senior Category Manager to work with our Distributor Business unit to turn insight into strategies and actions which unlock category growth for McCain and customers and to work with all internal and external partners to develop and deliver them. Take ownership to develop McCain's category leadership through creating category collateral, supporting strategic initiatives, or improving ways of working.
It's an exciting time to join our foodservice team, with lots of growth opportunity in this category you'll be involved in lots of different projects including launching new categories in demand spaces as well as working in partnership with other teams across the Globe within McCain on different initiatives.

Reporting into our Director, Category Management - Foodservice you will be the expert in the potato and appetizer category, and will work with a breadth of customers - including national distributors as well as over 100 independent customers.
You will also...

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of Out of Home market, product categories, consumers, competitors, supplier peers and McCain performance.
  • Maximize category value from customers data systems to influence range, pricing and promotion decisions.
  • Develop and be a leader in delivering the foodservice strategy to the sales teams
  • Develop McCain's category leadership & influence through best in class customer engagement. Building trust across a network of key customer contacts to influence the frozen potato and other core categories for mutual benefit. Customer engagement delivered through regular category updates and bespoke customer insight based solution
  • Develop a Customer Prioritization framework to bolster decision making on where to play and who with, focusing on Global, National and Regional distributors
  • Take a leadership role in key Foodservice strategic initiatives, formulate winning strategic plans and working across the business to ensure market leading execution.
  • Develop breakthrough initiatives, gaining alignment across the business & driving profitable growth.
  • Support digital strategy in key distributor customers, leveraging all aspects across digital platforms.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.
We're looking for someone who is a natural relationship builder whilst being customer obsessed. You must currently be a high performing Category Manager looking for their next role or currently be a Senior Category Manager, ideally with experience of distribution.
We're also looking for someone who...

  • Is customer obsessed and has a natural growth mindset
  • Can analyse and interpret data and present conclusions and recommendations to drive decision making
  • Knows how to analyse and interpret data and identify trends
  • Has a clear understanding of the route to market process
  • Is a foodie at heart and has foodservice industry knowledge, a grasp of RTM would also be amazing!
  • Ideally as experience in using a innovative approach to developing snacking & sharing or plant based categories
  • Is a strong communicator, with excellent presentation skills
  • Is curious, creative, with an innovative mind set
  • Has project management skills, and can balance a number of different initiatives at once
  • Is tech savvy and digitally minded, advanced usage of PowerPoint and PowerBi

WHERE WILL I WORK?
Being in the office everyday is a thing of the past. Here at McCain, we champion hybrid working. This means we don't have a set expectation of how often you need to be in the office - however we would like to see you weekly! Our head office (Customer Experience Centre) is on the outskirts of Scarborough - 1.5 hours away from Leeds City Centre, and just under an hour from York. We have lots of colleagues who travel to and from our Experience Centre (even if it is just for a good coffee!) and because hybrid really does mean hybrid at McCain, they get the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues when they're in the office, and balance that with working from home to ensure they get a good life-work balance.
