The Role
Company Description

Whakatakoto te tūāpapa | Laying the foundation

At Contact Energy, we’re proud to be leading the charge toward a low-carbon Aotearoa. Our Major Projects team is central to this kaupapa, delivering large-scale renewable energy developments that include geothermal, solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). These projects are complex, high-impact, and require a strong foundation of planning, collaboration, and execution.

Procurement plays a critical role in this journey. Our procurement function is deeply embedded in the project lifecycle from early-stage planning through to commissioning. The team is responsible for sourcing and securing the materials, services, and equipment that bring our renewable ambitions to life. Working alongside engineers, project managers, and logistics experts, procurement ensures that our projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. It’s a space where commercial acumen meets purpose-driven mahi, and where every decision contributes to a more sustainable future for Aotearoa.

Job Description

Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the role

This is a unique opportunity to step into a pivotal role as Senior Buyer within our Renewable Growth team. You’ll be part of a tight-knit, values-driven rōpū that’s responsible for delivering major capital projects across Aotearoa. From development through to commissioning, you’ll be at the centre of our supply chain strategy — sourcing, negotiating, and procuring the goods and services that bring our projects to life.

You’ll work closely with project directors, engineers, and logistics experts to ensure everything runs smoothly, on time, and within budget. Whether it’s managing supplier relationships, supporting freight and customs coordination, or keeping stakeholders informed, your mahi will be critical to the success of our renewable energy journey. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, takes pride in their work, and is excited to be part of something bigger.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you

You’re someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and takes real pride in delivering quality outcomes. Ideally, you’ll bring at least 10 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management, particularly within large-scale infrastructure or capital projects. You’ll be confident managing end-to-end procurement processes — from strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations through to logistics coordination and documentation handover. If you’ve worked on renewable energy projects, or have experience with freight forwarding, customs, or expediting, that’s a definite bonus.

We’re looking for someone with strong commercial acumen, excellent organisational skills, and a knack for building trusted relationships, both internally and with suppliers. A background in engineering or project management would be advantageous, but it’s not essential. What matters most is your ability to communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and keep things moving. You’ll be comfortable working in the grey, curious by nature, and always looking for ways to improve how we do things. If you’re someone who brings energy, clarity, and a team-first mindset then we’d love to hear from you (even if you don’t tick every single box).
