The Senior Buyer / Planner will ensure and execute compliance with company and division-wide purchasing/procurement strategies, policies, standards and practices. This position will also ensure compliance with company and division-wide purchasing/procurement strategies, policies, standards, practices and relevant regulatory requirements including U.S. Food and Drug Administration and DOT/IATA, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and other applicable agencies. The incumbent will proactively work with the various sites and departments to plan and implement actions and metrics to achieve savings, ensure continuity of supply, and meet current and future business needs.

What will you be doing?

  • Review and approve the ordering of necessary goods and services with approved suppliers
  • Collect and maintain SKU level planning parameters such as pricing, lead time, minimum order quantity, reorder points, economic order quantity, and supplier contacts.
  • Support the Accounting team regarding payment disputes, credits, discrepancies, returns, or any other problems and issues
  • Formulate and administer RFPs/RFQs based on project requirements; negotiate prices, schedules, turnaround times and other terms with suppliers
  • The “planning” aspects of the Senior Buyer / Planner relate to working with the supply base to manage lead times and supply constraints. The Senior Buyer / Planner is expected to use proactive elements of capacity planning at Tier 1 and where appropriate, Tier 2 suppliers. The use of forecasting, Business Reviews should be used to aid the supply base in their capex plans to support the proper capacity levels needed by Smith + Nephew.
  • The Senior Buyer / Planner should notify the Procurement and Sourcing Manager at any time they think a supplier change is necessary in order to sustain the flow of supply to Smith + Nephew. Reasons could include but are not limited to extreme shortage of supplier capacity, significant and prolonged quality issues, or the supplier notifies Smith + Nephew they no longer wish to support the product.
  • Support division S&OP process by deploying risk mitigation and collaborative production scheduling development aligning needs in capacity constrained environments to support financial requirements
  • The Senior Buyer / Planner provides supplier management using scorecards, quarterly or bi-annual business reviews with the supplier’s management team.
  • Ensure compliance with company and division-wide procurement strategies, policies, standards and practices
  • Maintain supplier files in accordance with Regulatory and Record Retention requirements

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education: Bachelor ‘s Degree is required
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive procurement/purchasing experience
  • Previous SAP, Ariba and Excel experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to learn quickly
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work in an office environment and operate a computer for extended periods of time. Lift and/or transport boxes for storage requirements.
