Purpose of the role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Business Development and Marketing Manager to lead and execute growth initiatives for our Hong Kong office and the Asia region. This role is pivotal in driving market-relevant business development plans, fostering cross-network collaboration, and enhancing our profile in Asia. The candidate will need to proactively work with service line BD colleagues to create, manage and implement BD service line plans in the Asia region. Liaising with partners and directors, the senior manager will agree strategy and analyse, assess and prioritise new business development and marketing opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategy, planning and financial management:
• Collaborate with the BD service line leads, relevant partners and directors to tailor the global service line plans for Hong Kong, develop corresponding budgets and take ownership of executing the agreed initiatives within budget
• Ensure regular planning and review meetings are scheduled with each of the service line teams and that planned activity is budgeted, reviewed and monitored
• Identify new business opportunities, encourage cross-practice collaboration and cultivate integrated efforts across the legal teams and Ogier Global
• Monthly tracking of spend against budget
· Effective use of data and targeting – working with the client research / data analysis team
• Develop effective target lists for each service line to help partners and directors to target prospects and identify gaps and opportunities
• Production of high quality distribution lists for client mailers and event invitations
• Driving use of the CRM system (InterAction), tracking opportunities and measuring ROI
• Supporting BD trip planning - engaging with the client development team across the region, as appropriate, in order to facilitate introductions where gaps and opportunities have been identified
· Pitches, proposals and presentations - proactively supporting partners and directors to create pitches
· Events, conferences, seminars, webinars and sponsorships:
• Planning and delivering agreed local and international BD activity, working with the central events team for larger events and the local practice support team in relation to smaller lunches and dinner events
• Make use of internal best practices around event management and coordinating as necessary with colleagues in other jurisdictions to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach
• Generate ideas for new event formats and venues and help identify relevant industry conferences
· Legal directory submissions - make use of best practice guidelines to create high quality submissions for the Hong Kong teams for the core legal directories and closely monitor results
· Marketing and communications – work with the partners and directors to agree opportunities and objectives and then act as an interconnector with the central marketing team to deliver a range of campaigns across digital, PR and thought leadership whilst also ensuring a comprehensive suite of collateral is in place for the legal team in Hong Kong
· Develop own network of peers - actively identify and build relationships with key industry associations, networks and memberships to enhance the profile and development of legal relationships in support of service line team activity
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
· Relevant qualifications
· Evidence of developing and implementing highly effective BD and marketing campaigns
· Knowledge of the offshore legal / professional services market in Hong Kong and China
· Knowledge of digital channels including WeChat and Baidu
· Strong communications skills (verbal and written) with the ability to build rapport and trust to form and maintain highly effective working relationships
· Ability to work with a range of personalities, at all levels of seniority and cultural backgrounds with strong interpersonal, inter-cultural, communication and negotiation skills
· Confidence in meeting and networking with clients and intermediaries who are senior professionals
· A strong team player with an intelligent, proactive and pragmatic approach
· Hands on approach – willingness to actively contribute to both strategy and delivery
· Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
· Mandarin and/or Cantonese required
