The Role

About Us:

COVU is a venture-backed startup redefining how independent insurance agencies operate. By combining deep operational knowledge with AI and smart product design, we’re building scalable systems that automate agency workflows and unlock efficiency across the board. Our team includes leaders in AI, data science, and product who are passionate about delivering real impact through modern tools and automation.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a sharp, detail-oriented, and fast-moving Business Analyst who deeply understands independent P&C insurance agency operations and can quickly turn that knowledge into clear, structured requirements for our product and engineering teams.

Your job is to map real workflows, spot inefficiencies, and deliver clean documentation that helps us build better user experiences and AI-powered automations. You don’t just “know insurance”; you know what actually happens in agencies and can break it down for technical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Map Agency Operations: Understand and document current-state workflows across servicing, billing, renewals, endorsements, accounting, and other critical functions.
  • Design Future-State Workflows: Identify process gaps, simplify handoffs, and create optimized workflows aligned with COVU’s platform strategy.
  • Write Clear Requirements: Deliver clean, structured documentation; user stories, workflow diagrams, use cases, and functional specs, for product and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with operations, product, engineering, and accounting to clarify logic, resolve questions, and support fast delivery.
  • Support QA and UAT: Help validate that what’s built aligns with what was scoped; flag issues early, test workflows, and confirm outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in P&C insurance agency operations, including direct involvement in workflows such as endorsements, billing, policy changes, accounting, and carrier communications
  • Proven ability to analyze and redesign operational workflows, translate them into technical specs, and deliver end-to-end business process documentation (including BPMN/UML diagrams, decision tables, and flow logic)
  • Expertise in writing user stories with acceptance criteria, functional specifications, and integration requirements using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Lucidchart/Figma
  • Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams on API integrations, system automation logic, and data validation rules across operational systems
  • Comfortable leading requirements workshops, backlog grooming, and cross-functional sprint planning in Agile environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for translating insurance ops into technical product deliverables

Bonus Qualifications

  • Certifications such as Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher)
  • Familiarity with Applied Epic, AMS360, or other AMS platforms
  • Experience working with AI-driven automation tools, workflow engines, or low-code platforms

Why Join COVU:

  • Be part of a pioneering team dedicated to transforming the insurance industry.
  • Engage with cutting-edge technologies in AI, cloud, and data analytics.
  • Drive significant impact in a high-growth startup environment.
  • Collaborate with a passionate team of experts focused on innovation and excellence.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should submit their resume and an (optional) cover letter detailing their relevant experience and why they are a good fit for this role. The process includes:

  1. Initial screening with our People team.
  2. One or Two technical interviews with our Tech experts
  3. A final interview with the Founders.
