The USC Keck School of Medicine - Alzheimer Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI), located in San Diego, California is an academic institute comprised of an expert panel of scientific collaborators committed to advancing the development of new treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) through innovative clinical trials.

ATRI is looking for a Senior Budget Administrator.  This position resides in the Finance group of the ATRI and is assigned to support the Neurotranslational Division of the ATRI. This is an academic finance position. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate with Neurotranslational Division Director in the preparation proposals, Data agreements, material transfers, and service agreements within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines.  Oversee and communicate submission process, both paper and electronic.  Reviews documents for completeness and compliance.
  • Develop, prepare, and finalize project budgets.  Provide budget justification.
  • Serve as primary liaison and active partner between Neurotranslational Division Director, research groups, and other departments.  Respond to sponsor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awards are set up properly and cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled.  Initiates cost transfers.
  • Review and reconcile expenditures.  Advise on post award spending and commitment activity.  Oversee compliance related to fund and revenue.
  • Develop and communicate reports supporting project status.  Create effective forecasting and decision aids.
  • Participate in contract closeout process.  Submit final reports and certificates.  Complies information and documents needed for audit inquiries.
  • Understand, apply, and advise on university and government policies for projects.
  • Serves as a resource on subject area and overall technical resource to Division Director and other University staff.
  • Participate in and contributes to process improvements.  Leads other staff in group projects.

The annual base salary range for this position is $98,645,86 to $127,969.19. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Experience:
3 years
Minimum Skills:
Demonstrated budget experience, including knowledge of government and fund accounting, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Ability to interpret, provide clarity and conceptualize complex financial data and policies.
Strong analytical, qualitative, communication, interpersonal, organization, guidance, computer and spreadsheet skills.

Preferred Skills:
University budget experience and/or thorough knowledge of university financial systems, policies and procedures.
Experience with database administration and management.
