About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Power BI Subject Matter Expert who knows Power BI inside out. You will be the go-to technical authority on data modeling, DAX, performance, and governance, while still building solutions yourself. You will solve the hardest Power BI problems across enterprise engagements and guide developers on best practices. Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a strong advantage as clients increasingly adopt it.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development

• Build complex, enterprise-scale semantic models using star-schema design and advanced DAX (calculation groups, field parameters, time intelligence, dynamic formatting).
• Develop high-quality reports with strong UX, drill-through, bookmarks, tooltips, and custom visuals where needed.
• Write Power Query (M) and SQL for data preparation and transformation.
• Choose the right storage mode (Import, DirectQuery, Composite) based on scale, latency, and cost.

Performance & Optimization

• Diagnose and tune slow models and reports using DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, VertiPaq Analyzer, and Performance Analyzer.
• Optimize refresh strategies, including incremental refresh, partitioning, and aggregations.

Governance, Security & Administration

• Implement RLS/OLS, workspace strategy, and access controls.
• Manage Power BI Service: gateways, scheduled refresh, apps, sensitivity labels, endorsement, and lineage.
• Set up deployment pipelines and version control for Power BI artifacts (PBIP, TMDL).

Leadership & Enablement

• Act as the escalation point for complex Power BI issues across projects.
• Conduct model and report reviews, and contribute to development standards and best practices.
• Mentor developers and advise clients on Power BI adoption and roadmap, including Copilot in Power BI.
• Support clients adopting Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Direct Lake, OneLake) where applicable.

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Certifications: PL-300, DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer).

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of deep, hands-on Power BI experience in enterprise BI/analytics.
• Expert DAX, data modeling (star schema), and Power Query (M).
• Strong SQL.
• Solid understanding of storage modes, incremental refresh, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on with Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and XMLA endpoints.
• Experience with RLS/OLS, deployment pipelines, and Power BI Service administration.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills. 
• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience: Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, and Direct Lake.
• Fabric capacity management and Git integration for Fabric workspaces.
• Python/PySpark or Semantic Link (SemPy).
• Power BI REST APIs or PowerShell for automation; Power BI Embedded; paginated reports.
• Azure ecosystem: Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Entra ID.
• Experience migrating from Tableau, Qlik, SSRS, or other BI tools to Power BI.
