Dropbox is evolving. AI is no longer a differentiator, it’s the new default. We’ve launched Dropbox Dash, an AI-powered universal search that connects all your apps, content, and tools into one search bar. Now we’re bringing that power directly into the heart of Dropbox: our File, Sync, and Share (FSS) experience used by millions.
We’re looking for senior engineers to help us embed Dash into Core, not just as a future vision, but as an immediate, top-priority initiative. You’ll work on projects that reimagine how people interact with their files: from an AI-powered onboarding experience that activates users from their first upload, to smarter ways of organizing and retrieving media using generative AI and semantic search.
This is a high-impact role with visibility, urgency, and a clear mandate: use AI to make Dropbox smarter, simpler, and more useful for the people who rely on it every day.
Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.
Responsibilities- Design and build AI-powered product experiences directly into the Dropbox FSS flow.
- Collaborate with product and design partners to bring Dash capabilities (search, ask, summarize) into the Core experience.
- Use AI to simplify key user journeys, like onboarding and team setup.
- Work end-to-end: define, prototype, ship, and iterate on features in production.
- Drive the integration between Dropbox’s AI platform and product surface areas.
Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Applicants are encouraged to ask for more details of the rotations to which the applicant is applying.
Requirements- 8+ years of software engineering or related industry experience, with at least 1–2 years building AI/ML-powered product experiences.
- BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
- You’ve built and shipped AI/ML-powered product features with real users.
- You have strong product instincts and thrive in ambiguous problem spaces.
- You can work across the stack and enjoy partnering closely with product, design, and AI platform teams.
- Experience with semantic search, embeddings, or LLM-based UX patterns.
- Proven ability to ship end-to-end features in production (not just prototypes or research demos).
- Strong product sense, with experience defining and refining user-facing functionality.
- Comfortable working full-stack or across system boundaries (frontend, backend, infra, ML platform).
