Senior Backend Engineer

We are Fixico, an ambitious, product-led company transforming how the automotive repair industry connects and operates. We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong systems thinking and depth in

building scalable, production-grade infrastructure. If you're energized by owning complex backend systems, making tradeoffs explicit, and thriving in high-autonomy environments, this role is for you

• Design, build, and scale core backend services and our integration APIs (Laravel PHP) that power our platform

• Take end-to-end ownership of backend technical solutions, from system design and development through deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence

• Collaborate directly with product, frontend engineers, and other backend engineers to translate business requirements into robust, maintainable systems

• Lead with a "think like an owner" mindset, challenge requirements, suggest improvements, and help prioritize work that delivers real value and sustainability

• Help shape our technical direction as we scale our platform’s maturity, where you'll influence architecture decisions."

• Participate in and elevate our engineering culture through code reviews, architectural discussions, and mentorship of other engineers

• Work with the team to adopt new technologies and improve existing technology usage across the backend

Backend: PHP (Laravel)

Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes

Databases: SQL/NoSQL, data modeling, query optimization

Other Tools: GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, Pub/Sub event-driven architecture

• 6+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer, with demonstrable depth in PHP (Laravel), and building production systems at scale

• Startup or scale-up experience, you've worn multiple hats, made tradeoffs under pressure, and shipped fast without sacrificing quality

• Strong fundamentals in system design, clean code, testing, database architecture, and debugging. Expertise includes Git, CI/CD pipelines, knowledge off cloud platforms (GCP preferred), SQL/NoSQL, API design, and distributed systems patterns

• Product-oriented, you care as much about the why as the how, and you want to build software that solves real problems with sustainable architecture

• You enjoy removing bottlenecks and simplifying complex operational challenges for both customers and colleagues

• Comfortable working autonomously in distributed teams and async environments

• Clear communicator who values transparency, ownership, and pragmatism over political posturing.

• Experience building SaaS products or platforms

• Familiarity with GCP tools, Kubernetes, and infrastructure best practices
