For everyone, everywhere.
More about our mission and what we offer.
Job DescriptionAll our customers start their Wise journey by going through customer verification. We do this to keep our customers' money safe and to prevent criminals from using our products for illegal activities.
We in Personal Onboarding Verification are building and running the global KYC (Know Your Customer) system that provides the functionality to verify our customers. This system needs to keep up with increasingly sophisticated methods of criminals, but do it in a way to keep our product convenient and cheap for customers.
In addition to building global KYC features, our team also builds the framework for our Regional Teams to localize the verification experience. Our colleagues in Regional Teams extend the system with local verification vendors, collect documents specific to the country and implement any other checks that the local regulations mandate.
To succeed, our team needs to implement a system that keeps up with state of the art technology, enables several teams to contribute while keeping complexity and load manageable and has the data and observability to analyse our flows and prove they work according to regulations.
Team you will be working with:
You'll join our Personal Onboarding Verification team – a diverse, cross-functional group passionate about solving complex problems with elegant solutions. We bring together engineering disciplines across the stack, designers, data analysts, and product managers who collaborate closely to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Our team is responsible for the critical verification journey that consumers complete before using Wise's products. We own the entire verification lifecycle – from document collection flows and automated review systems to agent tooling and compliance monitoring. We operate with high autonomy, make data-driven decisions, and celebrate both technical excellence and customer impact. As a team that touches both regulatory requirements and customer experience, we have unique opportunities to innovate in a space traditionally resistant to change.
QualificationsWhat You'll Do
Take ownership of complex customer problems and drive them end-to-end. This includes learning the business context, proposing solutions, leading the implementation and making sure adequate monitoring and data is in place to measure the impact
Lead technical initiatives that improve our existing systems to reduce complexity and improve development speed
Collaborate with other functions in the team to deliver great solutions that take into account customer experience, business needs and technical concerns as well
Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and code reviews
Contribute to our engineering culture through sharing knowledge, practices and design principles
What We Are Looking For
A passion for technology that drives learning and constantly improving the quality of the team’s systems
The skill to break down and communicate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences to collaborate effectively
Ability to deliver complex projects in a true lean way, breaking them down to quick iterations and milestones, keeping the quality bar high
Understanding the techniques to work with and improve complex existing systems, using clean interfaces between components and managing technical debt
A proactive mindset: you take initiative to improve our codebase, architecture, and processes.
Understanding of domain driven design principles and hexagonal architecture
Experience with Java, Spring Boot, SQL databases and Kafka
Experience building complex microservices based systems
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.

Wise Offices
Hybrid Workspace
Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.
We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
