About the Role
We are looking for a senior, hands-on Backend Engineer to join our Application team and help build the core systems behind Pentera’s automated security validation platform.
In this role, you will work on large-scale backend services that support our SaaS and on-prem products, including systems that enable intelligent automation and data-driven decision-making across the platform. You will take ownership of complex backend components and contribute to technical decisions that shape how the platform evolves at scale. This is a role for an experienced individual contributor who enjoys deep technical challenges, end-to-end ownership, and building reliable systems in a highly complex domain.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of core backend services for Pentera’s SaaS and on-prem platforms
- Build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend solutions that support enterprise-scale usage
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservice-based architectures that enable complex product workflows
- Take end-to-end ownership of features, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production monitoring
- Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making as a senior individual contributor
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, QA, and research teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Review code and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to uphold engineering standards
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues and performance bottlenecks
- Continuously improve backend reliability, scalability, and maintainability
- 7+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer in an Agile development environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong proficiency in Java or Python
- Proven experience designing and operating backend systems using RESTful APIs and microservice architectures
- Deep understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and writing clean, maintainable code
- Experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB (Atlas)
- Hands-on experience working in cloud environments, preferably AWS
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting
- Clear communication and strong collaboration skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with additional backend languages such as Python, Go, or Node.js
- Experience working with Docker and containerized environments
- Familiarity with Linux environments and security-related concepts
- Experience working with graph databases such as Neo4j
- Exposure to security-focused tooling or penetration testing frameworks
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $180,000–$210,000, depending on experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base compensation only. In addition, Pentera offers a comprehensive total rewards package that includes performance-based bonuses and stock options as part of our long-term incentive plan, along with health and wellness benefits, retirement plans, and additional perks designed to support long-term growth and well-being.
