What You'll Do
As a backend engineer for the Media Tools department, you will help support artists through the creation and maintenance of tools intended to transform, convert, and serve dailies and other work products for creative review. In addition to maintaining and adapting existing services to fit expanding needs, you can expect to research new technologies and implement optimizations. Through the tools and services you will write, you will enable artists to focus on creating art and supervisors to focus on providing direction.
In this role, you will
- Develop a highly secure, high-performance API to service the front-end application
- Create unit tests in order to prove functionality and validate against regressions
- Design interoperable services, cache layers, and routing with the application usage requirements in-mind
- Program Ruby, Elixir, and be willing to learn new technologies as needed
- Work closely with team members to understand product requirements and propose technical implementation solutions
- Collaborate with a distributed, agile team of developers, product managers, QA, and designers
- Continuously learn and improve your skills. This includes staying up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices
What we're looking for
- Experience with Ruby and other backend languages and frameworks
- Experienced in designing, developing and maintaining high availability secure web services
- Familiar with nginx, Elixir, Postgres
- Experience with Git, REST APIs
- Knowledge of service scaling, testing frameworks, and effective service logging
- Knowledge of data minimization best practices
- Understanding of eventual consistency concepts
- Experience with Autodesk Flow (Shotgun/Shotgrid) API
- Ability to learn new technologies and languages quickly
This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
California Base Pay Range
$190,010—$278,682 USD
Washington Base Pay Range
$172,736—$253,347 USD
