As a Senior Backend Engineer at Employment Hero, you will drive technical direction, solve complex problems at scale, and enable your team to deliver impactful features for thousands of customers around the world.
Our product ecosystem ranges from AI-driven hiring tools to automated payroll systems, all built to redefine how the world works. We primarily use Ruby, but if your background is in another backend language, that’s completely fine. As long as you are ready to catch up with our tech stack and ways of working. What You’ll Do
- Lead by example, designing, implementing, and reviewing scalable backend systems.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers and Product teams throughout the product development lifecycle to identify challenges, shape solutions, and deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Champion engineering best practices including clean architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, and peer reviews.
- Mentor and guide engineers in your squad to foster technical growth and ownership.
- Communicate clearly and proactively in an asynchronous, distributed environment.
Requirements
- You are a senior-level Software Engineer with strong experience in backend or API development.
- You have solid engineering fundamentals and a track record of solving real-world problems through scalable, maintainable systems.
- You take ownership of the problems you solve, thinking beyond the code to ensure your solutions create lasting value for customers and the business.
- You are proficient in at least one backend language and are open to learning our stack.
- You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and thrive in cross-functional environments with global teammates.
- You are a team player who supports others, embraces feedback, and contributes to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
