Senior Backend Engineer - Platform

We are seeking a skilled software engineer to join our team focused on building and maintaining our billing,  pricing, and packaging software solutions at Timescale. As part of our close-knit, all-remote team, you will have the opportunity to work on critical services that power our managed TimescaleDB cloud offerings.

This is a full-time position, with a preference for candidates located in the European time zones.

• Develop back-end features for Tiger Cloud, specializing in a distributed microservice architecture with an emphasis on platform and database expertise.

• Design and build Kubernetes controllers, operators, and CRDs to extend platform functionality

• Improve deployment reliability, error handling, and developer tooling (CLI, APIs, SDKs)

• Build scalable, resilient microservices with strong observability (logs, metrics, tracing)

• Contribute to architecture decisions for distributed systems and service orchestration

• Collaborate closely with infrastructure engineers to ensure platform scalability and reliability

• 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience

• 3+ years of Go in production environments

• 3+ years Kubernetes operations (building, debugging, scaling clusters)

• Experience in distributed systems and microservice architectures

• Expertise in distributed systems and microservice design

• Experience with gRPC & Protobufs

• Experience developing Kubernetes operators/controllers with client-go or controller-runtime

• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL (admin, replication, query tuning, migrations)

• Strong focus on testing, code quality, and best practices (>80% coverage, linting, peer reviews)

• Experience with TimescaleDB or PostgreSQL in production

• Cloud provider expertise (AWS, Azure; both a plus)

• Experience with self-hosted Kubernetes clusters (not only EKS/AKS/GKE)

• Familiarity with CNI and CSI plugins (deploying, tuning, troubleshooting)

• Experience with ECPG

• Previous work on database-as-a-service or large-scale distributed systems
