Job DescriptionThe Team You’ll Be Working With: Getting Help
At Wise, our mission is to make financial services faster, simpler, and more accessible for everyone. The Getting Help team is at the heart of this, empowering customers to resolve problems quickly and efficiently. We are currently scaling the platform that powers our primary support channels, including self-service, FAQs, and our high-traffic chat interface.
We are specifically looking for a Senior Engineer to help us refine and scale the support ecosystem that leverages our Generative AI engine. We are not building the LLM engine itself, instead, our mandate is to engineer the logic and the user experience that connect our customers to those AI capabilities seamlessly.
The team’s work is highly visible—impacting both our customers and company leadership. We process over 400,000 chat sessions per month, and as we double down on making chat our primary support channel in 2026, we need your expertise to build the robust, scalable architecture that makes this possible.
What Does Our Team Look Like?
We’re a cross-functional squad of backend, frontend, iOS, and Android engineers, working closely with a Product Manager, Analyst, and Designer. We value ownership, deep knowledge sharing, and a commitment to building stable, scalable systems. We work with an agile mindset—delivering impact, learning fast, and iterating often. We value people who aren't just writing code, but who actively help shape the product roadmap.
QualificationsWhat We Expect From You
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be the bridge between complex technical systems and real-world customer value. You’ll not only tackle challenging engineering problems but also take on a product stewardship role—ensuring that the projects we commit to are delivered, measured, and truly move the needle for our customers.
Technical Excellence
6+ years of experience in backend engineering. We operate on a modern JVM stack (Java 25, Spring Boot 4). We care deeply about your engineering fundamentals—distributed systems, architectural trade-offs, and clean code—rather than specific language proficiency. If you are a strong engineer from a different ecosystem and are excited to learn Java/Spring, we welcome you.
A track record of writing clean, maintainable code and a strong belief in best practices like code reviews, open feedback, and continuous improvement.
Deep familiarity with backend development, including databases, synchronous/asynchronous communication, and distributed systems.
Experience with web development technologies such as REST APIs, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.
The ability to design technical solutions that balance latency, throughput, and scalability.
A passion for learning new technologies, tools, and patterns to solve problems effectively.
Product Mindset
A customer-first approach: You prioritize work that solves real customer pain points and use data to drive your decisions.
Ownership: You take end-to-end responsibility for complex problems, propose architecture, and drive projects to delivery.
Influence: You identify opportunities to deliver value faster and provide constructive feedback on product and design decisions.
Impact Delivery: You don't just ship code; you own the outcome. You are comfortable defining project scope, identifying blockers early, and ensuring that what we build actually delivers the planned impact.
Collaboration & Leadership
Strong communication: You can break down complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams.
Proactivity: You take initiative to improve our codebase, architecture, and team processes.
Mentorship: You enjoy helping junior engineers grow and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
You’ll work in a friendly, fast-paced fintech environment where ownership and collaboration are valued.
Why Join Us?
You’ll tackle high-scale technical problems and have the autonomy to propose and implement the solutions.
You’ll be part of a team that cares about stability, scalability, and innovation, while embracing rapid iteration.
You’ll make a real impact on our customers’ lives by improving how they interact with our product.
Hybrid Culture: We value face-to-face collaboration and work from the office 3 days a week. As our team is split between Budapest and London, you’ll also have the opportunity to travel to the UK a few times a year to collaborate in person.
If you’re excited about solving complex problems, driving technical excellence, and working in a team that values ownership and collaboration, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s build something amazing together!
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.
