Senior Backend Engineer - Customer Facing Applications - Lounge by Zalando (all genders)

As a Senior Backend Engineer in our team, you’ll be part of a motivated and diverse cross functional team of web and mobile app engineers and will be working closely with Product Managers and Product Designers.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining and creating backend services that power the critical customer-facing web and mobile applications targeting identity and access management, onboarding and overall new customer experience. You will work with tools and technologies such as Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka/Nakadi, Postgres, and DynamoDB in building high-performant, low latency systems to create an impact on end users.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Design, develop, deploy, operate and improve scalable software solutions that have a direct impact on our daily business with our customers.

• You’ll act beyond the team’s scope and gain more and more visibility vis-à-vis other teams, and Engineering Management, through alignment of solution designs and ownership of significant deliverables in cross-team projects.

• Take an active role in understanding business requirements and translating them into technological solutions. You’ll closely collaborate with Product Management (and other roles) to refine the functional requirements and build test cases to be verified during development and feature release.

• Perform code reviews, share knowledge and provide constructive feedback to team members.

• Lead by example, mentor and help your colleagues grow their technical skills.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have a deep understanding of microservice architecture, REST services and event based systems in order to build scalable solutions 

• You have experience with Java. Knowledge of the Spring Boot framework is a plus.

• You have a good understanding of SQL and NoSQL (preferably PostgreSQL and AWS DynamoDB).

• Familiarity with Go, AWS and Kubernetes is a plus.

• Passion for working in an agile, cross-functional team, iterating quickly during the product development cycle. As well as, ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineering peers.

• You are self-motivated and have a proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
