As our (Senior) Backend Engineer (d/f/m) - Checkout & Payments, you will
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend APIs and services focused on payment processing, billing, and end-to-end checkout experiences
- Integrate and manage third-party payment providers and gateways, ensuring seamless, reliable, and secure transaction flows
- Optimize payment infrastructure for high performance, scalability, and security while handling large volumes of concurrent transactions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, product, and customer support teams to continuously improve the user experience and resolve payment-related issues
- Play a key role in building our own managed payments platform, creating deeply integrated, automated, and scalable payment solutions for our customers
What you will need to succeed in this role:
- Strong expertise in backend development, particularly in payment processing, billing systems, or checkout flows
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (JavaScript or TypeScript, Java, Golang, or Kotlin)
- 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, ideally with hands-on involvement in payment and billing integrations
- Experience in working with payment gateway APIs (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree), checkout systems, or subscription billing platforms
- A solid understanding of NoSQL databases, caching mechanisms, and message queues
- Knowledge of data security and compliance standards, including PCI-DSS and best practices for handling sensitive payment data
- Being comfortable in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP) and familiar with Docker and Kubernetes
- The ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and approach problems with ownership and attention to detail
