About the role
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Back-end Engineer to join our growing R&D team. This is an opportunity to have a deep impact on AppWork’s product, technology, and culture through active coding, architectural designing, and solving complex technical challenges. You’ll play a key role in driving technical excellence and fostering a collaborative, high-performance engineering environment that supports our rapid growth and product vision.
This is a full-time position that will be remote to start, with the expectation of transitioning to our Israel office once it's open.
What you'll do
- Lead by Example: Dive into the codebase, contribute to architectural design, and tackle complex challenges to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Build & Optimize: Translate business requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions while optimizing engineering processes and owning key initiatives.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, and other teams to align engineering efforts with strategic objectives and deliver impactful results.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Elixir experience required.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: Node.js, Python, or Java
- 7+ years of professional experience in software development.
- A passionate builder and active coder with an entrepreneurial mindset - someone who elevates the engineering culture through hands-on excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Deep understanding of high-performance SQL/NoSQL database design and optimization.
- Extensive experience with AWS, including architecting solutions across multiple services.
- Familiarity with message queue technologies (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, Oban) for building scalable data pipelines.
- Proven experience contributing to scaling R&D teams in fast-paced startup environments.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with a strong bias for execution, accountability, and delivering quality results.
- Strong ownership mindset and a genuine passion for building exceptional products.
