As a Senior Backend Developer, you will build and maintain custom backend services that support a large-scale loyalty integration program. You will use Node.js and Java to develop APIs, validate backend deliverables from Enterprise IT, and create middleware layers that support frontend applications. You will collaborate with multiple engineering groups across regions and ensure backend components integrate reliably with the broader system.
What You Will Do- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js and Java.
- Build and support Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers for web and mobile applications.
- Review backend deliverables from Enterprise IT teams to confirm they meet integration requirements.
- Create wrapper or middleware services when upstream APIs require adjustments to support frontend needs.
- Work with engineering teams to define API contracts and integration points.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, and code reviews.
- Identify and resolve backend issues in development and production environments.
- Document backend systems, API specifications, and integration structures.
- 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience using Node.js and Java.
- Experience building custom backend services (not package- or configuration-based development).
- Proficiency in REST API design, development, and integration.
- Experience developing or supporting Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns.
- Experience collaborating with distributed engineering teams.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Ability to work core hours aligned to EST or CST.
- Experience with Kona middleware.
- Experience with containerization tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling.
- Experience supporting large-scale digital, data, or loyalty-related systems.
In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams located in the United States and nearshore regions. You will work within established engineering practices and have access to architectural and technical leadership for support when needed.
The annual salary range for this position is $94,000 - $135,000. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
