Job Description: 

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems and test frameworks that improve efficiency, quality, and reliability, while also providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to scale automation solutions. 

Specific duties include: 

• Advanced PLC Development: Design, program, and maintain control systems using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Studio 500, and MicroLogix 1000 platforms; develop modular code structures and interlocked safety logic for multi-station automated lines. 

• HMI and Operator Interface Design: Create and deploy user-friendly HMIs using AutomationDirect C-More EM7 and Allen-Bradley PanelView interfaces, ensuring real-time data feedback and fault diagnostics. 

• Motion & Drive Systems: Commission and tune Unidrive VFD systems and coordinate motion profiles between multiple axes for synchronized robotic and servo operations. 

• Robotics Integration: Program and optimize FANUC and Yaskawa Motoman robots for material handling, machine tending, and precision assembly of thin-gauge sheet metal components. Implement TCP calibration, DCS, and offline simulation using RoboGuide and MotoSim. 

• Sheet Metal Manufacturing Automation: Design end-of-arm tooling and automated fixturing specific to thin-gauge sheet metal forming, punching, and assembly applications, ensuring repeatability and minimal deformation. 

• Control System Networking: Integrate multi-vendor control systems (Siemens S7-100, Allen-Bradley, AutomationDirect) into unified communication architectures using EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and Profinet. 

• System Simulation & Design Validation: Develop mechanical and automation concepts using SolidWorks, including digital twin simulation for robotic reach studies and mechanical interference checks. 

• Continuous Improvement & Project Leadership: Lead cross-functional automation initiatives, identify process inefficiencies, and develop automated solutions to improve throughput, safety, and quality. 

• Mentorship & Technical Training: Provide advanced technical guidance to automation technicians and junior engineers, including structured troubleshooting methods and root-cause analysis for control and motion systems. 

Job Requirements: 

Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, and 18 months of hands-on experience in manufacturing automation. 

Experience must include: 

• Experience in HVAC or sheet-metal-based production environments. 

• Experience in robotic laser welding 

• Experience with PLC programming: Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Studio 500, MicroLogix 1000 

• Experience with HMI design: AutomationDirect EM7, FactoryTalk View 

• Experience with Drives & motion systems: Unidrive VFDs, servo systems 

• Experience with Robotics: FANUC (TP & Karel) and Yaskawa Motoman (Inform & MotoPlus) 

• Experience with Mechanical integration: SolidWorks 3D modeling and assembly 

Occasional travel required to our Price facilities in Georgia and Arizona. Travel is up to 10% of time.
