Job Overview

The Automation Engineer is responsible for developer tooling, automation and integration for the Quantitative Investment Research group and the Research Systems Group. The group provides a key function within the department that allows us to achieve the velocity and quality needed inside of our DevOps model, enabling the delivery of large-scale data and HPC solutions in the cloud. The work includes extending and operating Arrowstreet standard tooling for delivering software with Research specific needs but also building applications and services to manage security, costs, quality, and provisioning at scale. It also includes creating patterns and templates as we on-board new services and technologies to accelerate the application teams.

The ideal candidate has a mindset for automation, is self-driven, team-oriented and has a passion for improving software architecture and the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Automating and enhancing the platform and developer tooling that allows our development teams ever increasing scale, better observability, elasticity, cost optimization and security.
  • Development and Enhancement of Gitlab Pipelines which improve productivity, speed, visibility and ease of use.
  • Development of tooling which provides insights to the Research specific concerns around security, resource usage and cost optimizations.
  • Management, development and integrating with new and existing systems including Artifactory and Slack
  • Build secure container images and other components for our compute and data platform.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in an object-oriented programming language (Python, C#, C++, Java, Rust), with Python preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in configuring and tuning cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure), with AWS preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in building resilient CI/CD pipelines, strong knowledge of Git, and familiarity with a DevOps platform like GitLab, Jenkins or Bitbucket.
  • 2+ years of experience in container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Familiar with REST APIs and other integration techniques
  • Worked with Infrastructure As Code (IAC) such as Terraform or Ansible
