Vantage Data Centers powers, cools, protects and connects the technology of the world’s well-known hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises. Developing and operating across North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific, Vantage has evolved data center design in innovative ways to deliver dramatic gains in reliability, efficiency and sustainability in flexible environments that can scale as quickly as the market demands.
At Vantage Data Centers, we're looking for a Senior Automation Design Engineer to help drive the next generation of secure, scalable automation solutions across our rapidly expanding EMEA platform.
This isn't your typical automation engineering role.
Rather than focusing solely on project delivery, you'll sit at the heart of our Automation Design team, working across design authority, architecture, technical governance and innovation. You'll influence how our automation standards evolve, collaborate with industry-leading vendors, and support some of Europe's largest hyperscale data centre developments.
If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, influencing engineering standards and working across multiple disciplines, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Automation Design Engineer, you'll provide technical expertise across multiple projects and engineering initiatives, including:
Supporting automation design from early concept through to detailed delivery
Developing and maintaining secure, scalable automation architectures
Reviewing consultant designs and providing technical guidance
Designing and improving OT networking solutions
Supporting automation standards and ensuring designs remain aligned with emerging technologies and cybersecurity requirements
Troubleshooting complex automation issues on live sites
Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams across EMEA
Driving continuous improvement, innovation and engineering best practice
Producing high-quality technical documentation and design deliverables
Development and testing of PLC and SCADA Code Libraries.
No two days are the same, giving you exposure to everything from strategic initiatives and design reviews through to live operational support.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced automation engineer who enjoys working beyond traditional project delivery and wants to influence engineering standards across a growing international business.
Ideally, you'll bring experience in several of the following areas:
Automation & Control Systems
SCADA platforms (Ignition experience would be highly advantageous)
PLC platforms such as Rockwell ControlLogix or CompactLogix
Industrial automation design and control systems
EPMS or power monitoring systems
OT Networking & Cybersecurity
You'll have a solid understanding of industrial networking technologies including:
Cisco or Stratix, Fortinet or Juniper networking
VLANs, routing and network redundancy
Industrial firewalls
OT Cybersecurity principles including IEC62443
Industrial communication protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT and OPC
Network architecture including Purdue Model, CPwE and DMZ design
Engineering Design
Experience producing or reviewing technical documentation such as:
Control system architectures
Network diagrams
IO Lists
Cable schedules
Instrumentation documentation
Control panel and IO system design
About you
You're an experienced automation engineer with around six or more years' experience working within industrial automation, critical infrastructure, data centres, systems integration or an engineering consultancy. You enjoy solving complex technical challenges and are just as comfortable reviewing designs and developing engineering standards as you are supporting project delivery. You take pride in producing high-quality technical documentation, have a naturally organised approach to your work, and enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, scalable automation solutions. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and a proactive mindset are essential, as you'll be working closely with stakeholders across EMEA while helping drive continuous improvement, innovation and engineering best practice. If your experience doesn't perfectly match every requirement but you believe you can make a valuable contribution, we'd still love to hear from you.
Nice to have
Whilst not essential, we'd also be interested in candidates with experience of:
Networking - Cisco or Fortinet certifications (CCNP, NSE or similar)
OT System Architecture design - VMware or Hyper-V virtualisation, Windows or Linux server infrastructure
Cloud integration within OT environments
E-Plan / AutoCad Electrical Control Panel Design
