Job Summary:
The Grid Development Sr. Associate will be responsible for leading and coordinating all technical and permitting activities related to project grid interconnection. This includes managing the preparation of Feasibility Study Reports (FSR), overseeing transmission line (TL) and substation (SS) conceptual and detailed design, and ensuring timely compliance with grid operator and regulatory requirements. The role also involves supporting tender preparation, reviewing engineering deliverables, and ensuring that project designs meet both technical and permitting standards for successful grid connection.
The position requires close coordination with the grid operator (NGCP or DU), Department of Energy (DOE), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), consultants, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Grid Interconnection & Permitting
Lead and coordinate the end-to-end process of securing grid interconnection approvals, including System Impact Studies (SIS/DIS), Facility Study Reports (FSR), and Connection Agreements (CA).
Prepare, review, and consolidate technical documentation required for interconnection permitting and regulatory compliance.
Liaise with NGCP, Distribution Utilities, ERC, and DOE for technical submissions, clarifications, and follow-ups on project applications.
Ensure that grid connection designs and documentation comply with all relevant technical standards, guidelines, and permitting requirements.
Technical Design and Review
Develop and review conceptual and detailed designs for transmission lines and substations, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout plans, and protection and control schemes.
Evaluate design proposals, equipment specifications, and data sheets from consultants or contractors to ensure compliance with project and grid operator requirements.
Provide technical inputs for power evacuation studies, load flow analyses, and interconnection layout optimization.
Feasibility Study & Tender Preparation
Prepare or coordinate the preparation of Feasibility Study Reports (FSRs), including technical, economic, and regulatory assessments related to grid connection.
Support preparation of tender documents, including technical specifications, scope of work, and bid evaluation criteria for TL and SS packages.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, clarifications, and evaluation of EPC or design-build proposals.
Work with the procurement and project teams to ensure design integrity and cost optimization are maintained through tendering and award.
Project Coordination & Support
Interface with internal teams—technical, permitting, and project development—to align grid interconnection timelines with project schedules.
Coordinate with consultants and external service providers to ensure deliverables meet quality and schedule requirements.
Conduct site visits, as necessary, to assess interconnection locations and support feasibility validation or early design development.
Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for management and regulatory submissions.
Pre-requisites:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Registered Electrical Engineer required).
5–10 years of experience in power transmission, grid interconnection, or substation design within the energy or utility sector.
Strong understanding of NGCP or Distribution Utility interconnection standards, as well as DOE and ERC permitting processes.
Experience in preparing FSR, tender documents, and technical evaluations for TL/SS projects.
Familiarity with grid modeling software (e.g., PSSE, ETAP, DIgSILENT) is an advantage.
Excellent coordination, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Willingness to travel for site inspections and coordination meetings.
