The Role

Our Amsterdam Restructuring & Insolvency team is Band 1 in the Dutch market and part of one of the strongest international restructuring practices in the world. We act for lenders, borrowers, sponsors, investors and companies on out-of-court restructurings, liability management exercises, rescue and new money financings, WHOA plans and their interaction with foreign schemes, security and enforcement questions, distressed M&A and insolvency scenarios.

Most of our matters cross borders. You will work closely with colleagues across our global firm, including in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Luxembourg, Madrid and New York. You will also collaborate with our Banking & Finance, Corporate, Real Estate, Tax and Litigation & Dispute Resolution teams. 

The focus of this role is advisory and transactional. You will help shape the strategy, structure and negotiations that move a restructuring forward. When a matter becomes contentious, you will work alongside our Litigation & Dispute Resolution colleagues.
 

What you will do

• Advise financial institutions, companies, sponsors and investors on complex, cross-border restructurings, from the first signs of distress through to implementation. 
• Structure and negotiate amend-and-extend transactions, rescue and new money financings, liability management exercises, security packages and enforcement scenarios. 
• Advise on WHOA plans and their interaction with foreign restructuring schemes and insolvency proceedings. 
• Assess insolvency, security and property law risks in novel situations, then turn your analysis into clear advice that clients can act on. 
• Work closely with colleagues across practices and offices to deliver joined-up advice. 
• Build trusted client relationships and develop your profile in the Dutch restructuring market. 

What you bring

• At least 6 years’ experience as a Dutch-qualified lawyer in banking & finance, predominantly in private practice. Have 4 to 5 years and the right transactional background? We would like to hear from you as well.
• Solid finance transaction experience, and the ambition to specialize in restructuring and take on a broader advisory role.
• A genuine interest in insolvency law and goederenrecht, with the ambition to develop deeper knowledge in both areas. 
• A strong academic background and first-class drafting skills.
• At ease in an international team: you enjoy cross-border work, complex fact patterns and clients who expect judgement rather than analysis alone.
• Fluent in Dutch and English, with highly developed analytical and project management skills.
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach.
