Senior Associate (Quant Specialist), Research
About the Role
GLG is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Associate to join the Research team in Tokyo, Japan. This role will primarily support Japanese clients across consulting, corporate, healthcare, technology and financial services sectors by managing end-to-end quantitative and qualitative research projects.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in survey project management, questionnaire development, vendor coordination, client servicing, and research operations. Exposure to qualitative methodologies such as IDIs and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) will be an added advantage.
This is a highly cross-functional, client-facing role requiring strong project ownership, problem-solving capability, stakeholder management, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. We are looking for quantitative research generalists who have had exposure to the Industrials (Keiretsu / Sogo Shosha), Technology and Life Sciences sectors in particular in Japan.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Project Management
•Independently manage end-to-end execution of quantitative research projects across multiple industry verticals and geographies
•Oversee project timelines, fieldwork progress, deliverables, and stakeholder communication to ensure seamless project execution
•Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high quality standards and meeting tight deadlines
Questionnaire Design & Research Consultation
•Translate client objectives into structured, logically sound survey questionnaires
•Draft questionnaires from scratch and provide consultative recommendations on research design, methodology, sampling, and survey flow
•Ensure questionnaires are optimized for respondent experience, data quality, and analytical outputs
•Exposure to survey programming platforms (e.g., Decipher, Qualtrics, Confirmit, etc.) would be beneficial
Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination
•Coordinate closely with internal teams including Panel, Programming, Quality Check, and Data Processing (DP) teams for successful project delivery
•Conduct feasibility assessments and recommend appropriate sample sources/vendors based on target audience, geography, methodology, and incidence rates
•Work with third-party sample providers and research vendors to manage fieldwork efficiently while ensuring data quality standards
Client Management & Communication
•Serve as a key point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle
•Proactively communicate project updates, risks, timelines, and recommendations to both clients and internal stakeholders
•Build strong client relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and consultative problem solving.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree or higher in Market Research, Business, Statistics, Economics, Psychology, or related fields
•3-5 years of experience in project management and client-servicing role in market research.
•Strong understanding of quantitative research methodologies; exposure to qualitative research methodologies is preferred.
•Experience in handling B2B and/or healthcare research projects will be an advantage
•Strong questionnaire writing and survey logic skills
•Familiarity with online survey programming platforms such as Decipher, Qualtrics, or similar tools
•Understanding of sampling methodologies, incidence management, and panel/vendor ecosystems across different markets
•Superior written and oral communication skills in the Japanese business context.
•Full business proficiency in English and Japanese is mandatory.
•Strong organizational and stakeholder management capabilities
•Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
•High attention to detail and commitment to quality
•Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and escalation management skills
Good to Have
• Experience working with consulting, PE/VC, or corporate strategy clients
• Ability to review and validate final reports and deliverables, while synthesizing research findings into clear, actionable business insights and client-ready presentations
• Exposure to advanced analytical techniques such as MaxDiff, Conjoint Analysis, Van Westendorp Price Sensitivity Meter etc.
• Understanding of AI-enabled research workflows, survey automation tools, or data visualization platforms
