The Opportunity:

As a Senior Associate in the Portfolio Management Group (PMG), you will help oversee discretionary private markets portfolios from initial strategy and portfolio design through ongoing implementation and oversight. Sitting at the crossroads of sales, investments, and operations, you will support thoughtful portfolio construction and execution, using data‑driven analysis to guide allocation decisions and assess performance.

You will work closely with client-facing teams, investment teams, and functional partners to translate client objectives into portfolio strategies, contribute to analytics and tools, and help maintain high standards of governance and documentation across accounts. This role is highly analytical and offers opportunities to grow across strategy and research, investment placement, implementation and oversight, and performance analytics over time.

The open position would be specialized on credit investments and work closely with our direct credit team to oversee active portfolios, including our SCOPE semi-liquid product as well as several new and exciting product launches.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Support portfolio construction and oversight for private markets mandates, including aligning portfolios with client objectives and Hamilton Lane best practices.
  • Partner with Client Solutions and business development teams to contribute to portfolio proposals, strategy recommendations, and responses to client and prospect questions.
  • Work closely with investment, operations, treasury, fund accounting, and legal teams to support allocation decisions, cash and credit management practices, and scalable portfolio processes.
  • Develop or enhance portfolio analytics, tools, and data sets used for portfolio monitoring, allocation, and performance assessment, helping to maintain high‑quality PMG data and reporting.
  • Prepare and present clear analyses and updates for internal and external stakeholders, distilling complex portfolio and market information into practical insights.
  • Support onboarding and lifecycle management of client portfolios, ensuring objectives, allocation policies, and key decisions are documented in internal systems and tools.
  • Help identify trends, risks, and issues across accounts, contributing to recommendations that improve portfolio outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee junior PMG team members, contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.

Your background will include:

Must-haves:

  • 5+ years of experience in private markets, investment management, financial services, consulting, or data/portfolio analytics with meaningful exposure to portfolio or investment work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or a related quantitative or analytical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong understanding of core financial and portfolio concepts, such as performance measurement, risk/return, financial statement analysis, and basic portfolio construction.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders and/or clients on complex analytical or investment topics, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical and data skills, including proficiency in Excel or similar tools for financial/portfolio analysis.
  • Team oriented mindset and strong work ethic, with the ability to collaborate across functions and manage multiple workstreams in a fast paced environment.
